Pic related is what I use for pretty much every fighting game. In the past, I would emulate a lot of fighting games on my PC and use the keyboard as the controller, and this helped me transition easily.

I wan't to customize my old ass Hori Fightstick 3 but the problem is the circuit board is soldered to buttons and apparently i need to desolder them in order to remove buttons and even simply change my faceplate art. Maybe someone had any experience with Hori FS3 and has some tips?

A modded Qanba Q1. The stock parts were way too loose and shaky, so I replaced them with Sanwa buttons and stick. The only original part on it outside of the case is the Start button in the corner and the other option buttons at the top.

Which one is a nice fightstick for someone that never had one and want to get into fighting games?

HORI RAP.
It's about $150 but you won't need another one again, you can easily put in sanwa buttons if you ever want, it works on PS3/4 and pc out of box, even has a touch pad for the PS4.
Its a good size as well

Sticks aren't only meant to be played with fighting games you know? It just happens that "pro-fightsticks" use real good parts (150+ bucks and up).

Even I recently started playing snes games that suit the use of a stick and it is really adds another layer of fun and comfort on top of the gameplay.

It was a personal project I started because I wanted to see if I could put together my own after modding another. It's got all Sanwa buttons and stick in it with a PS4/PS3/PC board in it. The case was an empty Qanba Q3 that was a pain to work with due to the inside having a divider making it difficult to get the cable for the out-port to fit nicely into the slot on the PCB.

Threw this together when P4A came out in Europe and never got around to cleaning it up.
Though i have a friend-of-friend artist sketching up dragunov for me so i can swap out the art. Getting a clear balltop to go with it.

Just look for clear buttons, most brands do them.
I prefer Seimitsu buttons as sanwa are way too squishy for me. Seimitsu buttons have a bit of resistance

Though the art does have a habit of spinning, so you will need to occasionally open the stick up and turn them back

I mean, as much as I enjoy P4A, even though auto combos aren't optimal, you can win by just mashing light punch into auto combo, and reversals are just K+H.

Are there any fightsticks that are on the smaller side that are good quality or should I buy a smaller one and put in better parts? I've had pic related for a long time but it's kind of big I'd like something a little smaller.

This is why I actually like P4A, I don't have to bother with execution whoring in training mode. I can just pick Akihiko or Kanji and have good reads, and even playing random characters for casual fun with friends not into fighters, all I have to tell them is the buttons and they can play basically as well as I can with an unfamiliar character.

It's the only fighting game I can play with my brother that doesn't play fighting games, since I just pick a character I don't know how to play at all and bam, plus he loves playing Sho and has a great time.
Plus at the same time, while not super complicated, I can play with my other brother where we learned P4A as our first fighting game together, and we can absolutely destroy each other in like 2-3 mix ups with our mains.
