If i can recommend Final Fantasy games, it would be XIII and VIII for now. Get Dragon Quest Heroes II, because I was alright but II is much more improved. FF4 is not bad either but it does have a few issues.

Steam sales have been getting progressively worse for ages now.
Everyone finds something to complain about whenever they do anything the least bit interesting, so it's completely bland and featureless now.
They don't even have flash or daily sales now, because people complained that it disadvantaged them if they didn't check often enough.

So there's no fun, and there's no time-limited deep discounts. It's just "Welcome to Steams non-specific event sale! Things are slightly cheaper than normal!"
And even that gets screwed by some devs who pump prices before a sale just so they can 'discount' it back to RRP.
