Is it dead on arrival?
Absolutely
depends of how much single player content it has

I want to say it's not, but the writing's on the wall and everyone but IGN seems to be reading it.

Brand name will help but in general yeah, it's quite dead. I don't know how sure is Capcom with this strategy on Japan, but they sure fucked up their chances on America.

It's sad. Capcom's as dead as the franchises they promised to revive.
Nah. Lots of people gonna buy it day one since after Street Fighter Marvel is the second most important franchise in the FGC.
Evo was created for Street Fighter but it was the hype of Marvel which carried it through the dark age.
>casualized mechanics and gutted roster
how well did that work out for SF5? I didn't think it would be that easy to neuter the king of the genre's competitive scene
Nope, it'll be massively successful to normies with surge release sales because of all the MCU characters, and relatively well known capcom characters. Of course, no one will play it after a week, but the initial surge is a huge factor in if a game even gets support so they'll probably have all the fan requests/favorites/cut chars as DLC.

Evo was a tiny-ass tournament back then that was in no way comparable to the huge esports monstrosity it is now.

How'd they fuck it up? I'm out of the loop on this game.
