What's a fun game to play if you've entered your bi-annual loneliness phase and idealize the idea of enjoying a rich social life online with less constraints than those which govern in-person social interactions, but actually you'll play the MMO like a single-player game because you're still anti-social regardless of what you think you want, and also has fun crafting?

FFXIV need not apply, the crafting was okay for a while but I burned out on it.
>>
>>379229505
I gave up on another MMO coming out that would ever satisfy me again. That's why I decided to make my own, which is a totally not retarded idea.

Anything that's over 5 years old and would attract a more mature audience basically.

I sometimes play Ember Online.

It's a GMUD with pictures and an auto-map, quests, banks, an account system etc.

It's pretty good. Based off of Realms of Kaos, a GMUD from the late 90's-2001.

Similar to nightmist or other muds, however the map is really a godsend. You can click everything and use numpad to zip around. You can roll different races and classes to min/max whatever stats you want.

Unique monsters that drop their weapons or armor, clans, pk-ing, an account and bank system between alts, etc.

It's ok for every now and then.
>>
>>379236915
does it really make that much of a difference? I mostly just use my SSD for windows, never thrown any games on it despite a spare 60 gigs left
>>
>>379237128
I dislike bdo for the simple fact that half the quests are those trade/crafting quests. I know I can completely ignore that, but going into a town with 500 ! points is irritating. I kinda just want to venture off and kill, but I go off the path and start mining rocks for an hour...

I can't decide if I love or hate this game.

WoW is actually fun, but they bog it down with retarded grindy, mobage sub-systems to keep you subbed, that end up ruining the entire game.

XIV is bland, generic, and boring, but gets the job done and is inoffensive enough to keep me from cancelling my sub.

TESO is actually pretty fucking enjoyable and fun, but is more like Destiny than it is like WoW or XIV. It lacks the deep combat and encounter design that keeps me playing games like WoW and XIV. It also helps that it's B2P. I heartily recommend it to anyone who wants a break from other MMOs.

Black Deseret is abhorrent, abysmal bullshit. All Korean/Chinese MMOs are abhorrent, abysmal bullshit.

Crowfall will probably end up either good or okay, but is almost entirely PvP, so I'm not very interested.

Ashes of Creation might be a scam/disaster, but I backed it anyway and it was my first kickstarter pledge to boot. I'm desperate.

Who actually defends the state of MMORPGs in 2017? This genre is by and far the gutter pits of contemporary vidya with regards to frequency of content updates, re-playability and overall game quality.

On another note: what kind of new MMORPGs are any of you even holding out for at this point? Expansions?
>>
I'm waiting on the gummycraft tbc beta that starts on friday but not sure I'll play that much. Hope the launch is soonish afterwards but reserving my hype in case of disaster.
Also waiting for the jedi publish on swgemu, but everytime I go back I get reminded how fucked the economy is since they let everyone multibox - which ruins some of the essentials of what makes SWG work so well.

I keep meaning to check back in with haven & hearth but the RL buddy I was playing with isn't into it, and hermiting is fun but only for so long. Plus tough to get motivated to learn all of the changes (they re-arrange everything pretty often it seems) when it's just me.
>>
>>379244226
Black Desert's private server Ogrefest is actually pretty top tier. It does a bang-up job of filtering out all the Korean.
>>
>>379241134

>>
>>379244365
>hat kind of new MMORPGs are any of you even holding out for at this point?
Some of all of these may turn out to be shit, but they're ones I'm interested in, I'm generally into more sandbox oriented games but open to others:
>darkfall: new dawn
>crowfall
>ashes of creation (possible scam)
>chronicles of elyria
>camelot unchained
>the repopulation (doubt it)
>the new world (amazon sandbox mmo, not a lot of into on it yet is out but the basic blurb sounded great)

I'm sure I'm forgetting some obvious ones. Like I said, all of those may end up garbage so I'm not necessarily hyped but I'm hopeful at least one of those turns out to be not-shit.

What I'd really like to do is find a good roleplay community for a fun MMO but I doubt that's happening any time soon. Tabletop games have spoiled me when it comes to quality RP adventures.

It's not really a conventional MMO (We have to let those die off anyways), but Black Desert has been a positive suprise for like 5 dollars.
>Not much player interaction, but it's not like any MMOs today do. This lets them try out new things though
>Very runescapeish comfy grind if thats your thing, with an option to just afk grind with less results or do more interactive grinding for better results
>Literally the best combat in any MMO
because they don't have to focus on balancing between pvp and pve. This is the doom of MMOs in my opinion, balancing between raid and pvp content, so all the skillsets end up being toned down and boring
>Fun economy side where you build you empire of workers and choose which traderoutes to open and what raw resources to work on so you can make shit out of em

There's a ton of things that make the game easier on people who pay money, like only being able to go beyond 40 inv slots or something with money, getting pets that autoloot, basically being tied to like two sets of gear all game unless you pay for cosmetics and the p2w thing, a suit that hides your nametag ingame. But I think people jump on the bandwagon to judge the korean style gameplay when they know exactly how its gonna be, not seeing all the potential the game offers you because all they see is the grind.

I actually didn't know that there was anything out about the amazon project. You think they'll say anything about it at E3? I remember the last mmo that I remember caring about which showed some stuff at E3: Everquest Next. That turned out pretty well. Sarcasm aside, I've been curious, but ultimately I can't trust it.

>>379244918
More or less. MMORPGs have ultimately become the most sterile games to ever exist in vidya in the contemporary age. MMO developers are almost wholly player-excluding and the management and playerbase favors cliques and echochambers. This creates a really sterile environment that doesn't really ever change because of how players aren't really given any tools to influence the game themselves. Thinking about it, I bet a Valve mmo would be pretty good (if Valve made games anymore) simply because they'd probably make a bunch of the in-game assets available to players to toy around with offline or in isolated, local servers. You just never see player-driven content creation in MMORPGs like you do in some other games.
>>
>Wah its not sandbox

Fuck off, I will never give a shit.
>>
>>379244365
MMORPGs are fun because I'm not a normie, so I want people to witness the effort I put in my MMO character, and when you have a ton of free time it's nice to have a main afk game. And if you're a NEET it's nice if the game also offers you a social experience besides meeting a bunch of randoms when you queue up that swear at you in subhuman slavspeak.

I'm waiting for WoW to die, then eventually it's copycats to also die, so we can move away from this boring targetting/rotation based combat system in our big MMOs
>>

Bad.
Good combat, no pve end-game, pay2win, pay2notlooklikeshit, past 56 the very definition of a grind.

What kind of combat do you want then? Something more fluid with switching targets based on proximity or vulnerability? Because that's stupid. People will focus with targetting and rotating because it maximizes dps if you have to waste time switching targets.

Wurm Online if you like simulating a medieval life

Elder Scrolls Online if you just want to fuck around.

Litterally the only thing i do is fish, gut fish, see what i get from fish, sell that shit in the market, buy food recipes from the market, gather ingredients out in the wild (hunting or just picking plants), making food and selling high quality food and the rest of it go into a tavern, RP a bit with some faggots, give them food, they escort me to some dungeons and i get loot that i can sell later on to fund my decorating of my house.

I been doing this shit for a long time now and i am like level 35 or so.

Also my weapon is a broom and i havent unequiped that shit since i got it.

Is pretty comfy to play, no stress to get high level, quests are fun, all the world open to explore from the get go.
>>

>I actually didn't know that there was anything out about the amazon project
Well you haven't missed much, but they did reveal the name and a bunch of concept art and a video talking about it and shit. Way too little to be hyped, but still sounds neat.
That they've jacked so many good devs from other projects gives me hope, and a big company throwing money at a sandbox mmo is kind of rare so I'm pretty curious.
You can google and find more info, I wouldn't be shocked if they didn't talk about it at E3 as that would make sense. It may also be that they don't release much info until it's further in its development as they've mentioned they want to make a big splash. So I guess I don't know shit about shit.

Remember in like Ultima Online, when Richard Garriott logged on as the king of the realm, and one time he forgot to turn on invincibility, so he got killed and it became a real thing with GMs hunting down the murderer

Or in Everquest (I think) when people used to barricade town exits with furniture to make people pay a toll

The whole purpose was to create an actual world, but devs need to pander to everyone who feels upset when someone came up with a good idea before them. Like I've been playing on vanilla wow servers where people make mafias on both factions to control all of a certain type of rare leather. Imagine the whining if people did that today

I doubt this is a scam at this point, if it is, it's a REALLY intensive scam for not a lot of money. I think (at worst) it's just the pie in the sky dream of an MMO loving weirdo that'll end up like Star Citizen, intentionally or not, with a half-finished abortion of an alpha in mid 2019 or something.

>They have a nice, furnished studio space with people already working obviously, and they bought it and got set-up BEFORE the kickstarter ended
>They have already hired more people
>They already have a work-in progress footage of their core systems and shit, and they update their youtube constantly
>All the cries of (3 million isn't enough to make an MMO!" are invalid, because they already had funding, and the kickstarter was just to add additional features and polish
>They never added additional stretch goals after their initial ones, and declined to add more because it would just cause feature creep. (If it was a scam they'd keep promising cool shit in new stretch goals to keep people donating, not doing so showed them to be realistic)
>Already saying it's going to be a subscription MMO with a cosmetic cash shop (being upfront with a harder to swallow payment option, rather than "IT'S BUT TO PLAY, NO SUB FEES EVER XD" and no "PRE-ORDER YOUR KICKSTARTER EXCLUSIVE CASTLE/SHIP FOR $500"

I knew that game was going to be supertrash the moment I saw how the skill system worked. I actually didn't put much stock into seeing how it turned out. Sailing boats on land was pretty cool, though.
>>
>>379245707
Of course it can't be completely balls to the walls CUHRAYZE, but who cares if it's easiest to focus with targeting and rotating? People are fighting for whos doing 0.2% more dps by stopping a cast just before it finishes. Wouldn't it be way cooler to have an actual skillceiling and a challenging skillcap so people who really want to get good can stand out, and there's more interesting ways to improve than make macros to shorten your downtime between casts from 0.1 seconds to 0.05 seconds?

Black Desert is a great example of a fluid system that will never become popular because a large studio in the west could never push an MMO like that when WoW is still alive. Not to say that Black Desert doesn't have problems, but it's a good start.

Also what about things we aren't even thinking of yet? First person? Even a shooter? Sure, these have been done before, but realistically a person isn't paying for 2 subs, and doesn't want to sacrifice the scale and quality of WoW, so companies aren't ready to go all in on the market yet.
>>379245819
How does security and networking stop people from inventing new MMO systems? Hell, companies have, but an MMO can't succeed before WoW dies, unless a company takes an unrealistically HUGE risk in money and time investment

>Why cant the devs just make dark souls bosses for enemies?!

Because it's not client side you goober, every mob handles everything server side. The more complicated pathfinding and AI behaviors you put in, the more strain is going to be put on the server. Add in that anything other players have to do being networked to everyone else and you have people getting out of sync incredibly easy, which makes the game look unattractively buggy and unpolished. So then you need more robust servers in more locations for better ping and it just goes on and on

When everything is clientside or handled via peer to peer, you can load all the strain on the player's machine and everything is nice and responsive. MMO open worlds don't have that.

It's not a design problem, it's a "this is logistically improbable" problem

Instanced content will always be king until we get faster-than-light data travel. I don't know why people keep buying into the open-world meme. Alternatively thinking about trying FFXIV again. I had been playing EVE for 10+ years but am hanging it up due to no longer having the time for it - game requires most all of your free time, no matter how much I love it, with grad school and taking on a new job I don't want a part time job waiting for me at home every night. What about me sounds like a whale? That's a legitimately retarded thing to say, especially considering the game isn't anywhere close to being out.

B2P isn't a bad thing, but if a Kickstarter says it's B2P, it incentives backers. The fact that they're upfront about having a sub-fee and a cosmetic shop shows me they're more interested in being honest than generating hype to get more money.

If they were interested in simply getting more pledges they'd say something like: "NO SUB FEES AND CONTINUOUS CONTENT UPDATES FOR FREE, FOREVER. THE OLD DAYS OF MMOS ARE GONE."
>>
Has anyone tried that new Crossout game? I'm desperate for some more Mad Max/Rage type of gameplay but it looks like it suffers from a lack of content.
>>
>>379250925
Because it cheapens the experience. Devs have to constantly add items to the cash shop that people will buy so you have a situation where you can't earn everything in game, and if that goes well and people don't mind buying things it incentivizes adding the better stuff to the cash shop while making the things earnable through regular content half assed, and when the player base starts to thin and people stop buying shit as frequently most games turn towards adding silly items which ruins it for anyone looking for any sort of immersion. The old days of sub2play with no cashshop are really ideal but their as dead as good ideas in the industry.

So things can't change? Selling cosmetics takes almost no effort, proven to work, and at least affords the player something in return for their money. That creates a dynamic world. Either someone finds a more creative way to get rid of them, or eventually low levels start to riot, which always brings high levels in the end

I don't want just a game, I want a world. And as seen by your comment, thats what the gaming world has forgotten in MMOs. To modern devs a living world means shit like holiday events or generic pve skirmishes like FATEs in FFXIV. A living MMO should be created by the devs responding to the playerbase finding creative ways to use their sandbox, not by the playerbase responding to whatever the devs throw at you.
And I mean that as it shouldn't be only
>"Oh wow an unique monster has spawned near me, better go kill it, so dynamic!
Note that this is not a bad tool to make players interact with eachother and the world, but it should only be a tool, not the whole game
>>
>>379247091
But like I just stated, these cool systems have already been done in MMOs, but they can't flourish because WoW will probably always be THE MMO, until it dies, so it doesn't give the other games room to expand on these ideas. Quite the opposite, it kills the games
>>379249876

GM can just intervene by being a police or something ingame and hunt those griefer by put them to jail for like an hour. No need to ban them.
I remember playing a mmo called Voyage Century Online where you can be pirates but day by day, becoming pirate does not worth it because the admin made it not worth by increasing the punishment into the pirates.

Yes and no. Parts of it were fantastic. Other parts were awful.
This is all just my opinion, so grain of salt:
The good:
>combat was very fun once you got used to it
>full loot, most everything is crafted
>huge huge world (too big)
>could play with a guild (smarter) and have a cool town, defend it, ally with other fags
>could go alone and die a lot but still be a dick
>lots of politics regarding alliances, territory
>pretty good AI, not perfect but goblins would have to actually see you before they run at you, not a set agro range

The bad:
>similar to UO, you have skills and raise them by using them. Not bad on it's own but led to macro'ing afk
>not similar to UO, there was no cap on what you could learn, so eventually you'd have max'd everything, making everyone and their gay dad a wizard who also polearms you and also he's a sniper too and a healer
>huge world so when pop got low was tough to find fights
>pve is there but almost meaningless outside of some mats or reagents or grinding skills/farming
>no consequences for just attacking anyone you see, or at least no meaningful consequences. A racial based alignment system that no one cared about, so similar to rust or dayz no reason to not attack whoever you run across assuming you think you'll win

The guild politics and the pvp was what made it a lot of fun, in my shitty opinion. The rest was medium. Huge world but not a ton to do in it besides ride to people you wanted to buttfuck. A sandbox but not a true one, as in everyone maxes out their character basically the same, and even the cool guild cities had set plots for where you put shit. You couldn't just find a cool location and plop a house down like SWG, for example.
One revival game is out now, "Darkfall: Rise of Agon", which is essentially old darkfall with some improvements. Another one is still being worked on, "Darkfall: New Dawn" and that is old Darkfall but with more UO inspired elements, like localized banking, less fast travel, etc.

>I just want to play one that focus on exploration, making buddies and reading up quests in order to do them.

try lord of the rings online. the world is fuck huge.zone are gorgeous. theres a lot of cool lore for the lord of the ring universe. the game is based on the books and not the movies, so something will vary alot from what you saw in the movies.

you kinda have to read quests because the "quest helper" functionality is kind of vague. the community is really friendly and most of them are older people, theres always people RPing or organizing music or travel events.

classes excell at their primary job aka all classes have weaknesses and strenghts, no one class can do everything by themselves. this might be a pro or a con depending on personal taste. and they all have really unique features, like for example hunters can teleport the entire party to a waypoint in any zone. minestrels can teach other classes how to use different musical instruments, ect, ect.
theres a lot of world quests and even dailies that are geared around group play to encourage people to team up or just join kinships (guilds)

the game is great, theres enough content to keep you engaged for the better part of a year. the only downside is that after lvl 30 you either have to sub or buy quest packs and expansions to continue questing around the world.

I keep going back because the game has great atmosphere and the community is just amazing. yeah yeah, i know I sound like a damn shill, but its one of the few mmos that still have that old school feeling.

None of what you're saying makes sense.

For one thing, you seem to think Monthly subs are a scam. How? You get a service for a fee, and that fee prevents a lot of bullshit like:

>Third-worlders
>Kids
>P2W
>Minor updates
>Updates based around the cashshop

>You just sound like somebody easily parted with their money
What? Again, I'm a fucking penny-pincher. I play sub-bsaed games like WoW and FF XIV, and I play them enough and enjoy them enough to more than justify the $10-$15. I get more value from that fee than most "normal" games. Plus, unless you're fucking 13 or something, it's not a lot of money, it's not even an amount you think about, if you have a fucking job that is. I vastly prefer sub MMOs to F2P or B2P MMOs, the results speak for themselves.

>maybe the devs know AoC won't have that many people so they're fishing for whales upfront who don't mind both monthly sub fees and cash shop?
The most funded MMO of all-time doesn't have a big audience? Really? Plus you're acting like having a sub fee plus a cosmetic shop is odd, when every sub fee MMO has one too, WoW, XIV, etc.

>The AoC kickstarter only has 19k backers but reached 3.2mil.
3 really simple reasons for this:

1. MMO players are autists who are willing to pony up lots of money for their genre where good games are few and far between
2. Other games like Bloodstained and Pillars of Eternity only have more subs because the kickstarter rewards gave you shit at a lower tier: PoE gives you the entire fucking game at $20, and BS gives it to you at $28, meanwhile $25 into AoC only gets you a month of playtime and some exclusive shit
4. The Kickstarter backing for AoC was superfluous, the game was going to be made without it, the KS funds were just for extra polish. There was no reason to pledge unless you really cared, it was getting made regardless. The other games needed funding to get made at all. The incentive was more real.

>>379253280
Putting the "griefer" in jail is just like banning in modern MMOs, that's not what I'd like at all.

GMs/devs just wanna do the minimal job today and go "Oh, people are roleplaying as bandits by barricading places? We could for example give the players the tools to fight back, or wait for it to play itself out, since someone will help the underdogs, or the bandits will find that with their toll prices it's not worth it at all, or someone more fair will come along and take their place, or maybe we could make a system where you can put a bounty on people who do morally shady things ingame. Or we could just add a line of code that makes building furniture to barricade things impossible in the cities, that should fix it!"

Repeat this process a thousand times or so, and you got an extremely restricting, generic world where all you can do is run from one quest objective to another and maybe pvp a bit on the way. It stops being an immersive, dynamic world and it becomes "just" a game

I haven't, but I've kept up a little bit on them. I'm more of a sandbox fag and those were my main complaints about Darkfall so I was waiting for New Dawn to get closer.
The last I read, people were having fun in Rise of Agon, and honestly having two splinter projects of an already niche game could mean that there won't be enough of a playerbase for either.
So I couldn't say which is better, but Rise of Agon is actually out. There is a recent reddit post that has people listing the differences between the projects that you could look at.

is this the part where you guys start to argue at what isn't pay2win and what is pay2win for 9 hours with one of you taking pay2win literally
>>
>>379253461
Basically.
The game is divided into 3 big parts

>The grind
It's the dumbest thing you can do, to party up to grind, since the xp share makes it like 5 times less efficient. Also the pace of your movement from one mob to another is so fast on most classes (until the lategame where it might take like 12 secs to kill a mob instead of 4) that the other player can't keep up with your intentions

>Jobs
Very time consuming, like everything in the game. Like RS, you fish or cook or farm or breed/train horses or hunt for hours straight with no way of player interaction

>PvP
This is where the interaction comes from. The game offers great possibilities for both duels and large scale pvp. The only reason to really join guilds is so you can do larger scale pvp to fight for the control of different areas

There's also some bosses you can summon that probably need more than 1 player to kill endgame, that drop bis gear, but that's about it. All trading happens via the auction house too.

There might be something I'm missing since I'm only lvl 45, but I haven't heard of any other group content lategame

It's always quicker to do things with others around, though. Divide your chores or anything. One guy goes fishing, other cuts the trees down and gets them on that shitty sled back to your village, stuff like that. And when the russians come it's always better to not be alone.

Wish there were more games similar to those but more fleshed out. I feel like I tried everything in that genre, Wurm included which took a good portion of my life

Are you me?
I've gone back to H&H for every new world and love the newer game even if I miss the old charm of the 2d, but it gets mind-numbing after about two months and it starts to feel like a huge chore. And then whoever I'm playing with start to drop out and at that point there's no way I can keep it up.
The feeling of getting a palisade up in a sweet spot is so good tho, and the few weeks of working with a ragtag group in a mini-village is awesome, even if their autism gets really old.
>>
>>379254553
You can be if you got enough time, but the truth of the matter is you end up doing it anyways. You gotta find the balance to burn to 60 as soon as possible for the pvp hold out then go to town working on life skills until your soul stops working for the billions you'll actually need so you won't be stuck grinding mobs indefinitely for chump change.

>I'm a fucking penny-pincher but I play sub-based games like WoW and FF XIV
>Steven Sharif was involved in a pyramid scheme and AoC has a referral program that earns players money

Russian hivemind is very real. They always form their own insular collectives in games and are hostile towards everyone else. And since botting is a thing in H&H and Salem they just balloon out of control.

Hell, world 4 of H&H even had White Death Army to fight Russians infesting the northern parts of the world.

Sell it or use it to outfit the friends that I make.

Use the funds to buy a guild hall and then start a city.

That's what I tried (and failed) to do in SWGEmu. People flake out of guilds after two or three days and then you never see them again.
>>
>>379254917
>B2P keeps those types out

I don't think so. Very much like with subscriptions people still think it's early days of MMOs when people were still weary about it all. Noways practically everyone has a credit card and can buy a game for less through sites like G2A and alike. There's also cryptocurrencies.

None of the big boys want to do anything but sit on their piles of gold, since why would you ever wanna wage war and lose gazillions of credits? No one wins. There's a ton of older MMOs that are free to play now with no p2w, but most of them are pretty hard to access. Maybe try getting into WoW private servers, now that the hype is still kinda going. I've tried to get back into my hunter but I don't find it that fun anymore. BM seems brain dead, MM is okay-ish, and survival just feels clunky compared to other melee classes.

What's BDO? There's no way you comparing that to Black Desert Online's ground based AOE combat that focuses on Stafe (A/D key) attacks.
>>
I've been chasing for a comfy MMO for a while. I really enjoy exploration in Eve online, but unfortunately the progression in the game is retarded to the point it's just too frustrating to be worth doing. And I don't even mean SP, I mean ships. You either have really cheap garbage or really expensive OP shit, but there's absolutely no middle ground.

i actually really liked BM. i want to go MM route as well but my dps is like 100k low compared to BM so i stick with BM right now. i am probably doing something really wrong.

you should tinker with talents if you really want to have fun with BM i guess, like dire beast is a pretty boring talent but make it dire frenzy and it turns into pretty fun skill, stuff like that.

survival is pretty clunky thats right, wish they just went back to dot based survival back in wod, it was very nice imo.

pic related are my talents. friend says i should use way of the cobra but my focus regen is quite low to sufficiently spam cobra shot + kill command nonstop.

i ll also probably switch from volley to murder of crows. but other than that, i can dish out 350-370k-ish sustained dps at 860 ilvl. its pretty good and fun.

P2W is really not there. The only thing thats kinda p2w is a suit that hides your nametag, but that's a very minimal thing.

p2look cute is a problem though, not gonna lie.

There's also a ton of cash shop items that make your life easier, but the thing with BDO is that it's truly a game where the journey is the game, not trying to get to a certain level. Sure, real PvP opens at 50+ lvl, but that's just a small part of the game. You need to explore and do random quests to get extra skillpoints, you need to level cooking to make food to increase your hp (and you can only eat food every 30 minutes), and you need to build a worker empire and fish to efficiently level cooking as well, but to build a worker empire you need special points you also get from exploring and doing random quests, and to effectively travel between cities to keep your worker empire up you should also get horses since they have a stamina bar that regenates very slowly, so you'll probably need 1 horse in every city, but you might wanna get better at horse training, catching and breeding as well to get good horses. But this all takes money which you'll get from doing other jobs as well. And eventually you wanna make a boat to travel to islands for better materials and grind And the list goes on... And these are things you wanna start doing as you level, not just get fast lvl 50, since that means absolutely nothing.
>>

Yeah, I might give it another chance. I noticed that they made feathermanes a tameable pet family now which is cool, I've wanted a pet hippogryph since vanilla.
I guess I'm just not happy with the current state of a lot of the ranged classes in general. The only ones I enjoy atm are frost mage and ele shaman. Legion seems like a very melee oriented expac.

>Star Citizen is the most funded MMO on kickstarter.
SC made $2,134,374, AoC made well over 3 million

>PoE gives you the entire fucking game at $20 meanwhile $25 into AoC only gets you a month of playtime and some exclusive shit
Why are you quoting my own argument at me? Do you think it's logically inconsistent or something? Again, you're making it seem like you don't play MMOs, because you seem to think their standard practice is scammy. Plus, my initial post wasn't arguing about the value of AoC, just whether or not it's a scam.

>I'm a fucking penny-pincher but I play sub-based games like WoW and FF XIV
Again? What? I gave you my reasoning and stand by it. I get dozens of hours a month playing an MMO, versus only a few from an indie or AA game.

>Steven Sharif was involved in a pyramid scheme and AoC has a referral program that earns players money
And? He also has legitimate businesses too? He's a sperg funding his dream MMO. Plus that wouldn't explain the involvement of tons of normal devs. Why would he put in all this effort (buying a studio, hiring actual devs, making actual gameplay footage, making legitimate designs, putting himself on camera, etc just to POSSIBLY make a portion of possibly 2,000,000? Doesn't make sense.

>19k backers payed 3.2mil for unnecessary additions to the game even though, "There was no reason to pledge unless you really cared"
Is there a conflict in this statement to you? The game was going to be made either way, so people who really cared put in money to ensure it got more features/polish and that they'd get some cosmetic, special bullshit in return.

>Already saying it's going to be a subscription MMO with a cosmetic cash shop (being upfront with a harder to swallow payment option)
Not a scam, it's the industry standard. If they were interested in scamming they'd say the were B2P or entirely F2P to attract poor-fags and kids.

>Ashes of Creation might be a scam/disaster..
Any kickstarter could be a scam/disaster

>Minor updates
WoW/XIV have minor updates but they're parts of HUGE updates. Meanwhile B2P games never deliver large, meaningful content because it doesn't make them money. Look at GW2 and TESO. TESO literally never delivered meaningful content and TESO did but charged $5-$10 a pop and called it DLC. Now both games caved and made Expansions for $60 because they (and their audience) realized the B2P model didn't work for delivering content.

>Updates based around the cashshop
WoW/XIV might add a new mount or something to their cashshop, but a majority of B2P MMOs revolve around them entirely.

They never really changed it, just said they did something that was a whole lot of nothing.

Either way it looks like it's in developer hell given carbine cut from 150 employees to 50 over night and then released pretty much the raid and zone they promised a year earlier, been silent since. They were way over their head and did to much in fighting on how to release content rather then releasing it.
>>
>>379257907
No, I still play, I just don't play in a group since it's pointless and very unefficient. Up to like lvl 45 mobs die VERY easily, and after that they still die pretty easily aslong as you find the right combos. It's a Korean game, the PvE will never become very challenging. If you don't like runescape, you won't like this game, since the pvp is still tied to the rest of the game.

And no, this is one of the least social MMOs ever. Not that Wowclones are social at all either. It's not social if you press queue, get into a dungeon and clear it without really cooperating or talking

And again, I'm right. Besides Craglorn, forever ago, when the game was floundering (and had a sub fee) what content of actual value was added for "free?" I'm fine with paying a sub for TESO when I play, but don't act like it does the B2P model justice.

Is there a nice-ass, BIG game there if you don't pay the sub? Yes. But you don't get any content beyond that. If you want to be serious about the game, you're basically coerced into paying the sub, if not for the crafting bank alone.

And again, they realized the B2P meme doesn't work and cucked their own philosophy by making a normal-ass expansion for full price (which I'll buy).

i d say the opposite, i am a dedicated melee, played rogue for years and tanked with a paladin for some other years.

since wotlk i literally cant have any fun with my rogue anymore. i just fucking want to play with two swords but combat was fucked up since tbc, unless you get to the end of an expac and collect all endgame gear. legion really gave me hope with the new combat but it is so insanely rng based, if you get roll the bones right you do insane dps, if not, better luck next time. i remember i spent a whole adrenaline rush cd on trying to get 2 dices but failed.

but now i am having a lot of fun with hunter past couple of days. it just feels pretty good minus the animation sounds. i am literally thinking about raiding with it as well now that i am pretty free at nights.
>>
>>379258369
You can pretty much play it like that, you'll run out of quest before you hit max level, then dungeon to max level for the last few and do the last quest zone and world quest. Pretty much as theme park as it got, the story overall was pretty good even for the questing pace.
>>
I want something like 2007~ Runescape for skill leveling.
Quests that don't feel lost in the world, and are also interesting.
Concise combat skills that don't feel like most of it is unnecessary bloat.

At one point it was two brothers and a small english team with really little player-company interactivity. The combination of the general age of players (it was popular in British primary schools) with a really low skill barrier and primarily user driven information available online via the forums and early wiki websites resulted in the weird economy the game had being pretty fun.
I loved going to falador on World 2 (a completely arbitrary location) to sell my slayer drops and being able to see prices change so that I could plan what to work on next

Are you fucking kidding me? Dark Souls bosses practically just point at their target player and execute a series of attacks.

>Add in that anything other players have to do being networked to everyone else and you have people getting out of sync incredibly easy

WHY DO PEOPLE WHO ALWAYS KNOW NOTHING ABOUT NETWORKING BRING THIS UP?

IT CAN BE DONE. NETWORKING IS NEVER ACTUALLY SYNC'D ANYWAY, THERE IS ALWAYS A DELAY BUT YOU JUST DON'T NOTICE BECAUSE GOOD NETCODE MASKS IT

Tera pulled off having no tab targetting combat, with hitboxes and even directional hitboxes 100% fine, it CAN be done but most MMO devs don't because of laziness and degenerate demographics that can't handle anything different from WoW.

I still hope that Pantheon will turn out alright. It feels like the only MMORPG in development that actually gets what MMOs should be about: An actual fantasy world simulation without focusing too much on all that PvP shit.

Black Desert just released on steam last week so it's getting a surge of new people.

>P2W
The PVP and max level content is the worst part of the game because it is literally grinding. Only retards do that stuff.

It's a great crafting and exploring game. Don't expect a WoW-type game or you'll just be one of the idiots who rushes to 50 and says the game is shit because it's not what they expected. There are no dungeons and reaching a high level means absolutely nothing. Your character's armor and damage only matter if you are a tryhard who wants to spend money on the game.

I got a good 6 months out of it. If you're looking for something different, pick it up. Tons of content for the price, including the ~$30 that's recommended to buy cash shop stuff like pets that autoloot. (you can buy outfits and pets with silver in-game, if you have the patience)

Vanilla is fun until 30, then it's a massive grind.
Elysium is also a complete gankfest now. Every other post on reddit is complaining about getting ganked constantly. Good luck with 50+ because you can barely quest.

It really could be fun though if you are into active wpvp and don't care about dying a shit ton. Wish I put the time in to grind to 60 when the server launched so I could participate, but I've lost interest in private servers since Blizz actually shut down the biggest one. Always the thought of losing my character(and time invested) looming.

I'll be so happy when Blizz finally ends producing new WoW content and launches legacy servers. Just reading the behind-the-scenes Elysium drama is so stupid. Sucks that a-holes have to run these servers. That leaked chat from the devs was cringe and anger all rolled into one. The russian chick running shit is such a cunt.

Took a break from Archeage waiting for the KR patches to come over finally.

Picked it back up with the fresh start servers because they took out a lot of the bullshit and balanced the game a bit better, some of the most fun I've had with an MMO in a long time, now I just want the RNG heavy bullshit to be less of a big deal.

I played that game on release, f2p, with a friend who has bought a backer pack. I already saw a major red flag with those "action points", forgot the actual name, that you used for pretty much everything (opening the lootboxes enemies kept dropping, harvesting nodes, crafting, doing trade orders...). There was apparently a bug for the first week where everyone generated points at the subbed rate, even offline (which f2p players wouldn't). When they "fixed" it and I saw the atrocious rate you lost them at even if just using them to open the fucking loot you got from enemies, I saw the cashgrab of a game this was meant to be
>>

ArcheAge was a disaster in my opinion

>>
>>379270950
Right now? Probably, I'm not sure. It'd probably still be fun to play from the beginning.
It was enjoyable playing late/endgame with the large community that came back for fresh start, though.
I know for sure a lot of people will pick it back up when the new patches drop, so then might be a good time to check it out.
>>379271257
That's because in launch 2 years ago they had a 4 day head start that everybody who played in the alpha could use to claim all the land.
It's part of the reason the game died in like 2 months, the second being that a bunch of literal pay to win items kept being put up on the cash shop.
Fresh start has been much better.

They fucked it royally.
I hate free to play games, it's a shitty model that just incentivizes pay to win cash shop microtransactions for whales to dump all their parents money into.
As much as it's still not a perfect system, I like subscription based payment models over that kind of f2p bullshit.

After playing a bit to test the waters, I treated Archeage Fresh Start like a sub-based game and it was fine. Has a little bit of that eve feeling especially with how you can buy a sub off the auction house. Basically, if you spent a couple days of your sub being productive and dicked around for the rest of it you could make enough gold to buy another month. Prices fluctuated a lot though. Also even at peak activity the housing market was still active and it wasn't hard to make money flipping plots. I really wish there were another game as good as Archeage was in a few places. It deserves a lot of praise, but it's by no means perfect. By the time I pick it back up I hope it hasn't died too much.

It's going to need a re-release for it to have any success again.

A "Fresh Start" server isn't enough. The game probably needs to be bought in NA by another publisher, wiped and started from fresh with an entirely new payment model.

It won't happen

>>379273743

>>
>>379281103
CCP is so fucking incompetent. Great developers, who obviously want to make good games, one of the best Art departments in the industry, but the leadership is just so fucking dumb. So many really stupid decisions made, gigantic amounts of wasted time and money of things like VTMO and Dust, and constant feature creep. Not to mention the amount of effort they spend to suck the cock of Nullblobs in Eve to the very obvious detriment to the game.
