This is a dumb thing to say. The PS2's library near launch was awful. It didn't start getting good games until Fall of 2001 after the Dreamcast had already been discontinued.

The Dreamcast died because Sony had tons of momentum coming off the PS1 and Sega was struggling financially. The Dreamcast would have been discontinued regardless of quality unless it sold a bajillion units month after month.

Why do people always bring up piracy as a reason for the DC's failure? By the time Sega dropped it, a majority of people were still running on dial-up, CD burners weren't exactly a household item, and the avenue for piracy had only been available for not even a year.

During the 200-2001 PS2 units were having a fault voltage controller on the laser in the disc reader which caused several chips to burn out causing disc read errors on blue bottom dvds. I think the faulure rate was something like 47%, plus there was a shortage of memory cards due to a faulty ram chip causing the cards to corrupt save files so there was a big recall, and that was really bad, I remember spending something like 3 weeks straight with my PS2 constantly on with thge Zone of the Enders paused because I had no MC to save to. Those two things combined probably resulted in the PS2 taking a dip for a bit.
