I think one of the main problems is that they're trying to make Classic gameplay with the Modern physics engine and that doesn't translate to Classic well at all.

The wall Sega is running into in that regard is whether people will be accepting of new music. It's a hard line to walk, the original music is so iconic and incredible, it's ingrained in a lot of peoples' memories, getting rid of it could be problematic. Easier to just not do anything with it. In Knuckles' Chaotix it made it so when you get hit all of your rings that are supposed to pop out of you turn into 1 big ring you can collect to get them all back. The first time I actually played Sonic 3&K from start to finish was the PC version. I never owned Sonic 3&K on the genesis but played it at a friends house. In the late 90s I found the game on sale and played the shit out of it. I had a nice soundcard and everything so the music sounded pretty good. Honestly I don't mind as long as I can play them, in PC there's always piracy and almost every console has an emulator. But for 7th gen and onwards it's different, consoles break themselves more and backwards compatibility isn't a thing anymore.
