You have literally no reason to switch to windows 10. Your system will support windows 7 till 2020

I recommend 8.1 with classic shell over 7. Once you uninstall the nu-apps and restore the start menu, it's a straight upgrade.

Honest answer, 10 is quicker, less buggy, and seems to have a better compatibility with old software (except old printers drivers, that's quite a pain).
Other than that it's not gonna improve game performance but it's future proof while 7 will be dropped soon, and it definitely offers a smooth experience. Needs some setup (like set internet as metered connection to decide if and when install updates) and some small tweaks, but once you're done you won't go back to 7, 10 is just a quicker, lighter and more efficient OS overall.

No it doesn't. Windows 7 has couple updates that you can just uninstall or just not install. You can't prevent windows 10 from updating, telemetry shit is burried deep in the code. The system itself was created to mine data on users. Again with windows 10 you have no authority over your own computer.

Pirate Windows 10 Enterprise and disable all the spying stuff with ShutUp10.

The Home and Pro editions doesn't let you turn off a lot of the Telemetry no matter how much you try to.

Although the Enterprise will use some more ram due to a lot of services aimed at businesses but you could always google some tweaks to turn all the useless crap off too.

Of all the Windows 10 versions Enterprise allows you the most customization and control over the OS. If you know your shit then I recommend the LTSB the best tho. While idle the thing only uses 1GB of Ram because it doesn't install any APPs, the Store, Edge and other useless garbage.

it depend. I own a few DX9 games that has compatibility issues with W10 which you need run it on compatibility mode which means it won't brute force leverage your hardware resource even if you're running a newer non toaster build, Also most the DX12 games don't really have a huge advantage over DX11 Steam counterpart most of them only offer 3-5 fps advantage.

Get a gaming computer with windows 10
For everything else use a laptop with Linux
