In earnest, no one was expecting someone to be as hyped as Snake was, and then Megaman happened, and everyone lost it harder then Snake.

The problem though is I think everyone's learned that the game's just not going to be all that fun anymore. Smash 4 and Brawl where both rather lackluster in their own ways. Brawl with it's weird story mode thing was at least better then Smash 4 having the stupid game board or Smash Run. Everything's felt like one step forward for two steps back, and I cant' say I look forward towards a new on no matter what they do...

You mean Sonic 3.0.
Sonic literially had 0 hope of actually getting in Smash at the time with 06 just hitting the fan on Sonic's representation. And Megaman doesn't matter, as EVERYONE asked for him and before you say "b-but he was dead thou" he was well alive as a character (classic speaking) with a good track record of good games. Plus being on Ninties good side, he was going to happen. Compare him to Cloud the "never been on Nintendo! He's a rival company character! Enix would NEVER let him in!" character, no one saw him coming, much like Sonic at the time.

Snake was a bit of a shock, but Sonic getting in was a miracle. Cloud is on equal footing in regards to expectations.

That game wasn't an adicative to Sonic's chances in Smash, just help relationship wise. Sonic's games have indeed soured his chances of happening to people, even SEGA themselves thought so. It was pure luck people still pushed for his inclusion despite this is why SEGA changed their minds and let him in. Cloud and Sonic are really lucky inclusions and not something guaranteed to happen.

I think they revealed a few characters' placements though. Bayonetta wasn't even #1 worldwide, but she was #1 in Great Britain, so you can thank the britbongs for her being in the game
