Smug rat is the best.

Also it's a shame that you can't port the monsters from the first one to the second one.

What's the point of the workshop or map editor, if you can't create new creatures to fight against.

The game is flawed because for some reason the devs wants to add more "action" to their combat by emphasizing some of the most stupid elements of traditional dungeon crawlers. It's retarded that you have to dance awkwardly around enemies and click on tiny corners of your screen quickly to launch your attacks in time. That's not action that's just autism.
If I wanted action I would have it with some sane controls, not on top of a retro dungeon crawler. Necrodancer does it 100000 times better.
>>
>>379200347
Grimrock 2 is very easy to get lost and forget your current goal.
The first isnt that bad, just keep going deeper.
>>
>>379200483
I don't have the most time in the world to be playing games, I'd rather just see what the buzz is about by playing the (what I assume to be) superior title of the series. And if I really really like it I can just go back and play 1

>>
I liked Grimrock Series. I dropped both game games just before the end for some reason, but I enjoyed them up till that point. I may have finished the second one, I'm not sure.

But I do love the claustrophobic and small scaled environments and most of the gameplay sensibilities. I wished they would took it a little further though. More complexity, more simulationist elements, more adventure elements.
>>

>>

anyone played starcrawlers?
>>
>>379200405
>Never tried an earth mage though.
Earth magic in both games is more-or-less not viable. Mostly due to most enemies being flat out immune to poison damage and the rest being resistant to it. I don't know what the fuck they were thinking with that class of magic, especially when they didn't even try to fix it int he sequel.

They should just scrap the poison theme, relegate it to a single poison cloud spell, and change everything else into spells like boulder throwing, rock armor, slowing mud, or what the fuck ever.
>>
>>379201774
What are the devs doing now? It's a shame that they dont continue it.

Shame Starcralwers look like ass. Which is not to say that it's a bad game (I haven't played it), just that it looks ugly. Such a terrible dull art style.
One of the things that Grimrock (especially the first one) did so well was the visual presentation and atmosphere. Starcrawlers really look ugly, generic and tasteless.
Hopefully the gameplay makes up for it.

Go play the Magic of Grimrock 2 mod in the workshop then. Full main game (no achievements if you're one who likes that), plus literally dozens of new spells. Plus some effective returns of some old ones.

Can't believe how bad Missile weapons had it since 2.

>>379200483>>379204628

They are loosely connected, same universe, just different locations.

2 Is more open world esque in that many locations are open to you after you kill the first boss, then you just work your way around.
>>
>>379204628
Yes, it's a way better game.
>>
>>379204628
Why not. I though the ending of Grimrock 1 was awful and also skipped. The two games have barely any relationship story-wise too.

If you can't pull through the last few levels of Grimrock (which I don't blame you) just skip to the other one.

Grimoire will be here within the week, if you believe Cleve and his lies.
>>
>>379205614
>I've finished Grimrock 1 and I think the last few levels are alright
I think it was the very last level that for some reason utterly lost me. I enjoyed everything up to that point but that just... I don't know. I just suddenly lost any urge to see it through. I think I felt like there was nothing more to explore, and suddenly the more tedious aspects of the game started annoying me.
I did watch the final boss fight (which seemed underwhelming to me) and the outro, and it did not felt like I missed out on anything.

Don't get me wrong though, I still like the game and I'll happily recommend it to anyone.

>>379205448
Not really, I'm afraid. Especially if you ever played other similar games like Dungeon Master, Shadows over Riva, Lands of Lore, Avadon, Stonekeep, Ultima Underworld or Might and Magic.
Arena is really kinda fucking unremarkable as a game.

Daggerfall is... at least more interesting technically, with it's insane scope and size, but still. It's clunky as fuck, suffers serious feature bloat (which is funny, considering how the series ended up...) The mechanics did not age well and while the lore is superb, the actual world as you explore it is as generic and lifeless as it gets. It did set the foundations of what would make Morrowind great, but it's not a must-play game as far as I'm concerned.
>>
After playing Grimrock I would highly suggest this

Grimrock 1 is much more focused and atmospheric. Discovering the mystery's of the spooky dungeon as you try not to starve is great.

Grimrock 2 to is a mishmash of environments loosely held together with temples. Enemies respawn so you never run out of food. You can spend hours wandering the outside world trying to figure out where to go next.
>>
>>379206863
It is in my top 5, like the game just flew under everyone's radar.
The way it plays takes some getting used to but after that it is great. For 20 bucks or if you can find a rom go at it.

>Grimrock 1 is much more focused and atmospheric. Discovering the mystery's of the spooky dungeon as you try not to starve is great.
Yeah, this was my issue with the second game, actually. While I found it mechanically much more fun, I just did not like the environments. The first game felt consistent, atmospheric, mysterious, foreboding.
Grimrock 2 felt cartoony, lacking in atmosphere, very game-y and generic. I still enjoyed it, but to me it lacked any atmosphere, which was the thing I enjoyed the most about the first game.
>>
>>379207007
That is what I felt after playing Grimrock 2 for several hours, I couldn't get into it like 1.

I thought it was fine once I started clearing out the mummies and had some room to breathe.

Then I noticed the golems.

I wouldnt count it as a dungeon crawler. I'd call it a JRPG mentally-ill-haram gambling simulator with nice artwork.
>>
>>379213280
DT2 is a much better game than anything EO has to offer.
>>
Would we count La-Mulana as a dungeon crawler or some kind of fucked up metroidvania with crawler traps and shit?
>>
>>379213280
>DT2
Shame it's too weeb for me. Make them look more adult and maybe Ill touch this game.

If you've ever wondered what that would be like as a turn based tactical rpg try Mordheim: City of the Damned.

Well, anytime DT2 is brought up in an EO thread, shit goes south quick.

Yeah, the art and especially some of the tropey characters could be annoying, but the gameplay grew on me so I don't care as much

The Rat boss's lair in LoG2 is fucking with me.
If I stay in a corner like others recommend, the boss will eventually come face-to-face with me because I can't escape quick enough.

This is LoG2 for me. I even have a good amount of accuracy, but that doesn't stop it.

Pirated the first game while it was on sale, loved it, but it left sale by the time I was going to buy it. Still bought it and the 2nd game anyway. I couldn't find 1 of the keys or whatever in the first bigger area though and didn't ant to resort to a guide so I topped playing it. Love the games though

1 and 2 are only "connected" through an elaborate Easter Egg, but their stories have nothing to do with one-another and both can be experienced without the other.

It's possible to telefrag him if you lure him to below a ladder and drop on him just right.
You get no exp, but if you don't care about it then go on ahead.
Admitedly it's not as simple as just dropping on him, you have to time it just as he's is moving onto the tile, otherwise he just gets pushed.

Recently picked up Starcrawlers.

Haven't ever played a dungeon crawler before so I started on medium and that was a poor decision since I've only been under half HP about 3 times and I'm already progressed pretty far into it.

Too late to start fresh though, honestly the game feels really shallow and a bit too easy (my difficulty tho). Is it just the game or does it encapsulate dungeon crawlers pretty well.
>>
>>379225169
Whoa, that's exactly what I needed. Many thanks.
>>
>>379213629
Dude. The second video starts with a 40 seconds fight of the player and the enemy (singular) standing in place slugging it like it's an MMO, complete with basic spells being channelled.

That's just bad.
>>
>>379215265
That's a decent bit of xp. I'm just saying.
>>
>>379225878
No dungeon crawlers are supposed to be dense with puzzles and secrets.
