What i meant was that i lost interest in the series by the time Gold and Silver dropped, so while i did play them via a friend that had Silver, i didn't see much progress and found most new mons a bit unremarkable, so i dropped the series altogether.

I really hope tomorrow's announcement is a slight reboot of the series, because even if i personally enjoyed X/Y and S/M after returning to the series, i don't think i will continue any further until there's a big enough leap in gameplay again. I feel like it's overall gonna stagnate again.

Eh, I still think that's a weak suggestion. My first Pokemon game was Gold and that was only because I didn't get a Gameboy until the Advance came out in 2001. My parents weren't keen on spending a ton of money on a "toy". But I played Red afterwards.

As for the models I think maybe, MAYBE the Switch games will get a visual overhaul enough so that the models look better. Seems like they could use some better lighting and more saturated colors to start. If you look at the old 3DS Pokedex app, you'll notice they're using the same models, but in the 3DS games the models just look like shit because of the lack of proper lighting.

Still wish they would go back to sprites entirely though.

Wouldn't know about Digimon, but Persona (a subseries of SMT) is pretty popular, especially the newest installment, and there's plenty of people who want the Dragon Quest games to be localized, but Square Enix doesn't localize them so less people get to play them.
What makes Pokemon different from those two is that SMT/Persona is primarily single player, and DQM's trading and communication isn't as good as Pokemon's. What makes Pokemon stand out is how the main point is trading and communicating, and I think they nailed it in XY onwards with Battle Spot, Wonder Trade, PSS, and Gen IV onwards' GTS.

I never touched X/Y, but typically a sequel having solid new features makes for a good sequel.

In the case of Pokemon, the formula is stale as fuck, the current art direction since B/W2 has ranged from bad to mediocre, and they insist on having a story and an intrusive one at that based on S/M. All in all, Pokemon hasn't been decent since Gen 4.

World design should be more interesting than "follow this line in a circle without ever deviating from the circle." There should be multiple paths to some cities that you're forced to traverse in different ways and sometimes it's OK to skip over a city in the circle to come back to it later. Doing things like that makes the game feel like you're going on an adventure and not just going from waypoint to waypoint.
