To be honest I think it is a very weak game compared to the the original Fallout series. Hell even the first 10 minutes of Fallout 4 managed to beat the shit out New Vegas.

I bought a PC two years ago.

Fallout New Vegas was the first game I bought.

I finished four games since then. Probably thirty or forty if we count multiple playthroughs of New Vegas.

Buy the ultimate edition, it's worth it.

if you're buying because you heard about it on /v/, don't do it. I bought it and the world is really empty, shitty characters, gameplay not the least bit impressive. It's not bad, but ridiculously overrated. If you really wanna buy it, just wait two more weeks for the next steam sale.

I'm replaying FO4 now and I unironically think this, at least where gameplay and world design are concerned. New Vegas beats out FO4 in every RPG aspect from story to character building to dialogue, but Boston is just a far better constructed world that I can't really hate the game. The amount of verticality, the density, the lack of copy pasted areas, in level design terms, FO4 was like old Bethesda reborn. It actually felt like you were exploring ruined in FO4, whereas NV was a very bland desert for the most part.

I know that's kind of the point with NV being a western set in Nevada, and they were constricted by having to use a majority of assets left behind by Bethesda in FO3 so they aren't really to blame, but still, as it stands I have no intention of ever exploring the Mojave ever again when the Commonwealth is so much better.

Its fine to still prefer NV because these are RPG games after all and NV has far superior role playing elements but I think people are way too negative on FO4. And besides, only a retard does the main story quest in Beth games anyway. The only Bethesda games I've ever completed the main story in were Morrowind and FO3 and the only reason I did FO3 was because of Broken Steel.

The game is going to be on sale in the Summer Sale almost guaranteed. If you really want to play it now then go ahead and get the ultimate edition. As for mods, nothing is really essential and I think you have to play the game vanilla to get a feel for what you like and dislike before trusting other people's tastes to change the game for you. Unlike Bethesda's games, Obsidian balanced NV fairly decently where you can do anything and not feel like you made a horrible mistake. Everything else is fluff, like better animations or cleaner NV streets. Come to think of it, NV is the only Gamebryo engine game that I'd actually play vanilla.

i loved the combat in FO4, it was marvelous, it was the first time i used a power armor constantly because i liked everything about it, while in fo3/nv it looked like a metal pajama and just felt like another piece of armor
while in NV it still can be fun, the combat is far less entertaining

but of course, NV takes a giant shit on FO4 in terms of every RPG element and storywise, combat can only last for so long, but stories are forever
