It was the ultimate endgame of the player self-insert: somebody everyone lauds for little reason, somebody everyone desperately wants to ally with for contrived story reasons, someone who accomplished everything despite "having no skills". And let's make them a manakete on top of all that, because manaketes are the best special snowflakes.

Hopefully, Nintendo got all that out of their system with Fates, and we can go back to more sane choices with their next game.
