Is the PS3 retro now? I see people selling them for 50 bucks

Considering they've now stopped manufacturing the consoles, they are quickly becoming one. Even more so since people are already telling rumors about potential next-gen consoles shipping late 2018

So I have one of those, I'm sure I haven't updated it since like 09. How easy is it to jailbreak those things now? I know back in the day you need to have a certain model and version of the OS.

it's not retro status yet but it's pretty old and there's 80 million fucking units sold, so of course the price is going to be low now. the more expensive PS3s are either custom firmware ready or are new condition backwards compatible models.

to this day you still need a 3.55 official firmware PS3 to jailbreak it easily. if it's higher then you have to look into modchips.

Retro means something new in an old style. Ever since getting into video games it's always irked me that so many people misuse the word.
