Well obviously, that's the whole point. They're thinking about dropping backwards compatibility because it's not bringing as much money anymore, so it may not be worth all the effort. It was never about looking bad or whatever, but effort measured against profit.
And again, it's possible that they'd start thinking of PS1 and 2 as abandonware if the trend continues.
As for remasters, it may even be simpler to redesign each game with the new architecture than to find a way to make the new console read old architecture, not to mention you can hype them better.

Sony, having never intended for the PS4 to play CD-ROMS, never agreed on all official documentation in case they get sued for lying about it. Okami was Remastered on the PS3, it's not playable on the PS4 since it's essentially an actual PS3 game. Shadow of the Colossus is the same as Okami, remastered. Ace Combat Trilogy is absent as a remaster and as a PS2 Classic. If you want to play those games, Sony has a service called Playstation Now that will let you play those PS3 games on your PS4. Play Burnout Dominator even though it look like hot garbage with textures so low that you can't even see other cars unless they are right in front of you. Often confusing a normal car for an opponent car because it just suddenly spawn (or at least may as well had) due to you being virtually blind until the last moment is quite normal. Think logically for once in your life:

PS3 is a disc based system. PS4 is a disc based system. The purpose of the PS4 is to promote a new system and ease PS3 players into buying the new product. Sony chooses not to include B/C which makes most people sit on the PS4 for 2-3 years until 2016-2017 because they had no reason to invest in one when most games at the time: Phantom pain, Tales of Zesteria, Persona 5, etc, were all still on PS3.

Switch is A handheld device, which is not new territory for Nintendo. It is also a cartridge based system, ergo, it could not handle/play wii-U discs. The only logical step is to re-port the games to cartridge format. Are they jeweing everybody with re-buying the game? Sure. If you bought it int he first place. Don't forget 80% of the gaming population neglected Wii-U because they figured there would be no reason to get it, and out of maybe 5 good game, if even. it still ahs barely any reason to live. Smash was a system seller but not to those admant about not buying a Wii-U, especially when 3DS came out first.

As for 3Ds compatability. the DS/3DS ios not only dual screen, which would not work on a handheld one screen device, but also touch compliant, and in msot cases touch RELIANT. Most DS games physically require the stylus and touchscreen to be playable, which the switch lacks, as its capacitive touchscreen only registers menu and tapping movements, its not meant for gaming.
