Im playing as a spiritualist fanatic militarist species of meritocratic very strong shrimps
My straregy is to keep vassalizing small neighbours to creat buffer zones and integrate them when the next cycle of expansion start

I got like 23 species in my empire and all have full citizenship, im essentially the galactic empire
>>
This game makes me feel like the dumbest piece of shit alive. There just so much stuff to keep track of.

You'll feel like you have down syndrome.
>>
I only played vanilla before, so I decided to pirate all the DLCs and give it another go a couple of days ago.
Well, the additions are fun. Habitats basically mean indefinite expansion, so I don't need to go to war out of sheer boredom.
However, megastructure construction limitations are ridiculous. I have +1k resource income each month, I'm the most technologically advanced non-fallen empire on the map, etc, etc. And yet I can't build more than one megastructure at the time for bullshit balance reasons.
More than that, it takes forever to build these things. Each ring world section takes 13 years to complete.

I mean, I understand that these things are supposed to be late-game unique projects, but the timers make these a chore to do.
>>
Playing a short squat froglike species of tumblrinas Only non main species are allowed as leaders in an attempt to achieve diversity. We love minorities so long as they think and act just as we want them to, any divergence gets purged.
>>
It saw better days.

>Create bitchin' fleet complete with giant flagship
>Go to kick some xeno ass
>They have little ships that are simply engines with meson guns attached to them
>One gets close to flagship
>Shoots exactly once

>Magazine fails the 97% chance not to fucking explode
>Entire flagship goes nuclear

Stellaris is hardly a complex 4x. there are many far better, more complex and deep 4x games.
>>
>>379159745

I've spent 100 hours in this game and still haven't been able to get into the late-game because I keep restarting.

Could crush every other empire in the galaxy but that would take forever.
Took the ringworlds from the last Awakened empire after they crushed the Unbidden and don't have much else left to do.

Preferably something that has decent graphics. I know about Aurora, but damn, if I intend to stare at the screen for 12 hours straight, I want the game to be pretty.
>>
>>379165180

What do you mean?
>>
>>379166259
You can't purge specific slave pops anymore, so getting slave pops and your own dudes distributed properly now involves colonising a planet, dumping the excess pops on it and giving it away.
>>
>>379166184
you're really missing out with Aurora 4x, but even without it: Distant Worlds and Sword of the Stars come to mind.

Oh, I just keep my slave planets and my founder race planets completely separate. It works better with how planet modifiers like +25/50% minerals work.

Pretty good. Just got done going through a power crises which always seems to happen in this game. I'm currently the local powerhouse after mulching through the United federation of planets and their fucking like year 10 federation. I have really underpowered ships due to just a lack of tech but With my fleet capacity I'm able to just swarm. Luckily since I went robots my mineral production is able to keep up with my stations constantly pumping out shits to reinforce the front. You cant play defensively against them. They get free fleets almost as soon as you kill them. Let them expand then jump into the middle of their territory and start glassing worlds. Normally they only send one fleet back to stop you. Once you start getting their infested plants down they get far less free fleets and you can start whittling them down.

I had an authoritarian fanatic spiritual empire that was in a cold war with two materialist empires for the early game. A devouring swarm ate one of them and I rushed to absorb the remnants. I allied with a nearby hive mind to fight the swarm off, and then turned around and killed the hive with the help of his pissed off neighbors. I have a million species within my empire and my original one only makes up about 25% of the population. All will revere the flame or face consecration by it.

I fucking hate sectors. No matter WHAT "improvements they make they are always fucking retarded. one of the oldfag empires awoke and began starting shit with me.

Built ~150k fleet of close combat ships, put fortresses all over one system with lots of auras overlapping, and a magnet fortress in the center.

awakened Faggots jumped in with their ~250k and got shat on by my 150k fleet because they couldn't snipe with their OP lances.

shortly there after everything became so goddamed slow and I stopped playing.

The prethoryn eventually run out of the logistic capacity to stop fleets from fucking their shit, at least back in banks. I thought it was cool that they left an effectively lawless zone, seems like pirate heaven.

Why cant I get more games with Stellarforming? only game I know of is SE.

Terraforming is fun but why bother terraforming a planet when you can make an entire sun go nova, thus turning all the planets into asteroid fields then condense the resulting nebula into a new sun and the asteroid fields into a brand new planet?

so the war in heaven actually ended with a white peace, didn't know it could happen

other FE got destroyed by non aligned league (basically me, the one other AI that managed to keep up and a bunch of cannon fodder) and then after a few months of war got the white peace offer

end result: everything not purple is a battle thrall under the awakened FE, combined fleet sizes of both alliances are about equal and the galactic cold war has begun

this is what it looks like in empire view

pretty diverse alliance overall, there's a bunch of smaller democracies of all flavors (moral, regular and theocratic), 2 kingdoms, one of which practices slavery (the smallest one at that, larger one bans all aliens but has pretty high living standards), a hivemind, and the 2 leaders of the alliance, me the robot technocracy and the utterly massive galactic megacorporation which consists of, by last count, around 30 species. I'm assuming they actually bought entire empires.
>>
>>379170374

I just put as many buildings in place before putting it into a sector and disable redevelopment. Occasionally I eat some influence and take over for a bit to make everything optimal.

Still doesn't fix that putting everything into a single sector is better than having a bunch of ones because of governor influence cost and cost to drain the mineral and energy stores. Is there even any downside to this?

I've done that but they act like little mini nations. They don't handle specialization so if they run into power problems or food problems it over rides the no redevelopment. I dont know if its fixed but some special builds are "invisible" to sector ai like that one building that gives you +10 to each research that spawns on gaia worlds. The sector A.I. will redevelop it thinking its not doing anything.

Honestly I haven't seen a single non-cosmetic/UI mod I've liked. Too many of them just fuck up the game balance, which is the most important thing in a strategy game.

Why are federations so useless? I always want to make one but it turns into way to much of a hassle. Have they said anything about improving them? I think it would be better if when created it "remapped" everything that joined into a new nation and each empire acts like a sector. From their everyone just votes on what the rules and everything is for everyone. Then let people make "unsanctioned" wars and deals and stuff on their own with outsiders and then make "sanctioned" wars and stuff that are deals and wars that everyone in the federation are pulled into.

>>
>>379175969
I miss the individual pop purging
I understand they did it to avoid people cheesing the new faction system, but why? An authoritarian shithole should be able to purge dissidents, and the consequence of that is a more united but less populous empire
Plus sometimes you just need to control slave population a little
>>
>>379176182

>>
>>379176080
I have around 100 mods running under the hood so probably one of them. One game I got a fucking titan flag ship. They found it encased in the ice caps on the poles. Getting it out flooded the planet and turned it into an ocean world but fuck was it worth it. That thing instantly turned me into the strongest chap on the block. Its would single handedly take out whole fleets.

The flip side of it though is that the A.I can get these events too. That same game one of the A.I. went full fucking retarded and started following the worm that waits. They went from a one system nothing into owning half of the discovered galaxy. They had all the loop buildings that pumped out like +20 and they had loop tech that was on par with enigmatic tech. dukeing it out with them was fuck as fuck but I was losing badly. It took a fallen empire awaking to their aggressiveness to kick them into line.

They are nomads with huge fleets that move from system to system.

>The Nomads, or Namarians as they call themselves, are a passive millennia old intergalactic race with no homeworld, forever traveling the void in their starships. Once they establish communications the nomads will act as a sort of "bridge" between the player and unknown alien empires, and the player is likely to soon be barraged by a large amount of "Communications Established" events as more and more alien empires are discovered by the nomads, and, by extension, the player. They travel from system to system and their stay in the galaxy is temporary and will eventually set sail for another one.

I really liked them the first time I encountered them.

To be fair, terraforming is a lot cheaper and quicker than modifying your race to live on a new planet.Unless you only modify one planet's worth of pop and use them to colonize that planet type.

Nope. If you want that colony you gotta save up. There are benefits to rushing a colony or cleaning up your home system both. I normally colonize immediately if I have a candidate.

No, first part of the game is mostly scouting for colonizable planets and meeting AIs.

Use hit and run tactics.
Scourge fleets have high wind-down time so use a fast fleet to nuke their shit before they get there and defend it. Purged infested planets become uncolonizable but can be terraformed so the scourge can't do shit to get them back.

As for the giant ass fleets they already have just pray they get worn down by the others or camp a system that's in their way with your main fleet and a fortress for the support aura.

It's because the war demand system is retarded. Why should I occupy 1/2 of an Empire's planets just so I can get a high enough warscore from them to cede two? Why should I give back occupied planets at all? Why does the war end so suddenly and randomly without negotiations?

They should just straight-up lift the warscore/wartype from Civ and Civ mods.

Only stuff you destroy yourself spawns debris for you.
Debris is instanced, whatever you find is only for you, and it only spawns when you kill something that is not yours.
when you kill a fleet together with someone else, they get theirs and you get yours, but those that are not participating can never survey that debris.

What you need to do is either feed those federation fleets piecemeal to someone weak enough that you can smash them after they adapt the tech they salvage from the federation ships, or leave the federation and get the shit yourself from your erstwhile partners.

Except for all the shit that is not free, like ascension perks and basic content that makes the game not stale, like enclaves, monsters, superstructures and ascension perks.
The game was empty and unfinished when they sold it for too much, and they charge too much for stuff that should be in something that costs 40bux, while it still not being enough for that price.
Also most of their mechanics are borked on a fundamental level.
>>
>>379199538

I don't think you should automatically keep everything without penalty. I wouldn't mind if your opponent has to agree to cede otherwise your occupied planet will have penalties or you'll get diplo penalties or whatever. My main problem is wars can only achieve the goal stated at the start with no flexibility besides white peace and that there's no other negotiations.

Don't care about how other Paradox games operate or if this system "simulates real life" better. It is extremely anti-climatic to just be moving your fleet around or building a fucking farm on a planet and then suddenly have a diplo screen appear that says you won. "Oh, I guess it's over" is my reaction every time. Not fun.

>>379168686
Apparently they are shit at rebuilding compared to a strong non-fallen empire. Just not enough resources to keep up. The problem is they are better pound for pound and can maintain a large fleet, generally larger than yours. Not to mention their ships even build faster. Guerilla warfare, wearing them down is the way to go. Split your fleet in two with the larger one as bait and leading theirs around in circles. Smaller one does raiding and tries to cripple production. This requires a pretty big fleet, probably 150k minimum. 100k as bait and 50k as main strike force (haven't played for awhile though so numbers might be off). Unfortunately there's pretty much no way to beat them without exploiting the ai and hoping they don't realize what you're doing. I don't know how you're supposed to approach an endgame crisis like the unbidden

This game wastes your fucking time like no other.

I was in a war for decades because the goddamn AI was allowed to teleport instantly in every system, even if I literally warped in right on top of their fucking ships. There was no way to force an engagement because they were instantly going all over the place without mind for hyperlanes, wormhole stations, warp distance or anything.

Either Warp Drives are the worst transport method by fucking miles, or the fucking AI just gets to decide when combat actually gets to happen.
>>
>>379205516
I just conquered that planet. That was an AI empires planet. THREE of his planets were like that. My only guess is that its population exploded and the AI went into farming overdrive to make up for it.

>>
>>379206368
>Either Warp Drives are the worst transport method by fucking miles, ...
They kind of are. Hyperdrive and wormhole are both much faster. It's just that hyperdrives aren't as direct, and wormholes need a wormhole generator.
With a wormhole, it's entirely possible to watch the enemy fleet warp out of system, bounce back to your system and then to their destination, and be waiting for them when they get out of warp. And then they get shredded because warp fleets can't move for a certain amount of time after exiting a jump.

With Warps, if you get intercepted the day of your blastoff, tough shit, you're in combat.

That should apply for every ship. I'm not exaggerating when I say I literally dropped right on top of enemy ships and the enemy was able to just poof away instantly.

I could have easily annihilated them, but after 3 hours of chasing the AI around and trying every kind of maneuvering tactic possible, including constructing a fucking Fortress with FTL magnets right in their path that still did nothing, I decided it's not worth having my time wasted.

They really need to rebalance transportation methods.

FEs aren't even that bad. It's endgame crises that are a giant pile of ass
Completely RNG whether you get fucked by them initially, the AI is fucktarded so they can't deal with them properly, and you're basically doomed if you can't singlehandedly crush them
It'd be more ok if they were an attrition-type enemy that got weaker and weaker the more they had to fight but that wouldn't make sense lorewise
