Cold Steel is not only the ideal place to start, but the only games you absolutely need to play. Sky story is self-contained and largely irrelevant in the overarching plot, and playing Crossbell only gives some background to a couple CS side characters since CS pretty much fills you in on the important things of crssbell arc.

This one is the second arc, and it has 2 games, it's not a trilogy.

The correct order would be playing the Sky games first, FC, SC and 3rd, then Crossbell games, but Ao is not translated, and then Cold steel, which is on the Vita and PS3, and coming to PC this year.

I've heard its in between FC/SC. There are only 4 chapters and a prologue/epilogue but they are very long. I'm still in chapter one with about 15 hours played.

Why was The 3rd's music so good. It's like Falcom got better with each game and peaked with Crossbell.

Seize the Truth seems like my least favorite, but only because I prefer the jazzy style from FC/SC/3rd even if recent games have higher quality in arrangement. And it's got a more obnoxious intro and weaker melody than the track it's based on. Determination of Fight is easily my favorite, but Get Over the Barrier, Glint of Cold Steel, and Sophisticated Fight come right after.

We're not getting much pure power metal from Sound Team jdk these days, but I'm fine with Unisuga's more elaborate arrangements. I really miss Momiyama's battle tracks like Unexpected Emergency, though.

i dont think xseed would accept a fan translation for kiseki. for games like zweii, their scripts are much smaller. kiseki is text-heavy and needs a full in-house job. the problem is timing of the games. Sen 3 is out in Japan in September and i imagine xseed wants to start working on that right away, so they'll be busy with that for several months.
