Dark Souls 3 would have been much better if it was a new ip and they focused on the new stuff they added. Just replace "linking the fire" with some other sacrifice ritual that required the strongest beings in the world, and they all refused so you have to bring them by force.

Dark Souls worked perfectly on its own, there was a ton of loose ends, but none of them were sequel worthy. I really hope Bloodborne 2 rumours armt true, just keep making new ips, DLC can fill in small sections of unknown lore but full fledged sequels just don't work with Miyazaki's writing.

Yeah, Iudex Gundyr and the hollows on the High Wall made me really want to learn more about what the Pus of Man was, but aside from a single mention from a key or something in Lothric Castle, it pretty much disappears from the game and goes unresolved. The stuff about Gertrude was interesting, too.

I didn't hate the DS1 references either, but the game did a bad job of balancing the old and new story elements. Even people who just wanted to revisit the DS1 lore were likely disappointed, since DS3 still never got around to answering basic shit from that game, like what the hell the serpents were after.

Yeah with infinite parrelell universes sometimes it gets linked other times it doesn't. But for your own reality, where the game takes place, the descions holds weight.

Dark Lord was a secret ending, how many people found Kaathe on thier first playthrough? It's pretty obscure. Linking the fire meant fixing the world and curing the undead curse, but it would almost certainly need linking again soon. Dark Lord meant letting it go out and ushering in a new age of Man.

The sequels just muddied everything up.

Yorshka's a weird one, anyway. Locked away in a tower by Sully, rather than experimented upon/raped/tortured/transformed into a servant/fed to Aldrich. Never heard of or mentioned before by anyone or anything. Claims to be a child of Gwyn, but is blatantly half-dragon - Gwyn being renowned far and wide as the One God Dragon Genocider, to the point where he disowned and scrubbed his eldest son's (and legitimate heir to the throne's) name from the books after he sided with them. most likely, as both the Old Chaos and Profaned Flames existed alongside the first flame. Only reason why Chaos went haywire is because it wasn't born of a lord soul.

Depends on how philosophical you want to get. If the answer is very, then there's a good chance that given their creation and exposure to the world, the Demons could serve a purpose similar to the Undead/hollows that populated the rest of Lordran. Although had the Witch of Izalith succeeded in making a second flame, they would never exist at all, but since she failed, they do exist but have very little in the way of a societal structure (or at least one that is significantly different, to the point of being practically unrecognizable as a society, than the Lords/Humans/Undead society of Lordran). Ultimately they exist in the world of Lordran as sort of a chaotic presence. They only do what they do to survive and exist, which doesn't really fit the ideals of Gwyn and his world, so they became an enemy.
