Because the whole trapped in a house because dogs are outside gets blown the fuck out by Infested City thats about to get blown up when in fact the town is built like an Illuminati tier organization controls it with secret passages/puzzles/Tunnels/Labs. Plus having two stories with two characters who can you can play both stories with. Its pretty much a direct upgrade

I think so, pays a lot of homage to the old school ones with the keys and the house roaming and such. Use of inventory space is great, Jack was incredible, that save room music man.

Mad house mode is easily the most interesting and amazing things about a horror game ever done in awhile.

The first half hour or up until you run into the swamp house was perfect.

Jack was fucking terrifying man.

I started playing it two days ago and it's so fucking weird. I certainly like it, but... Fuck, it's just weird. Can't explain it. Everytime Bakers show up it just becomes a fucking circus, in a good way, I guess. It's like the tone of the game is more serious than the previous games, but Bakers bring back that goofy shit. And while it looked appropriate in past titles, it seems a little out of place here. The weird thing is I still like it. "YA BETTER START RUNNIN' SON", that crazy scissors/chainsaw duel in morgue...

As for the rest of the game, it does feel like old RE, at least for now. I've made it to the old house just yesterday. I heard the game is short, but I hope I am only at the beginning, 'cause I fucking love it.

RE2 has the brief section in Raccoon City, the police station, the sewers and then the Umbrella lab right?
Whereas RE1 has the mansion, the Aqua Ring, the catacombs, the residence and the outside section that has the cabin with Lisa in it.

Smaller and more intimate locals have advantages over bigger and more sprawling settings. They create a stronger 'mise-en-scene' which makes a stronger impression the player, and you can make for more detailed exploration since bigger games usually always have to generalize the expanded settings they take place in to accommodate development. You can also have backtracking which saves development resources but also allows you to interact with the setting in new and interesting ways. Think like REmake, Metal Gear Solid 1 or Dead Rising. All of those games made for a very strong impression with their contained and continuous settings. I wish more games would go for that, it would be "braver" than making sprawling epics since that's what everyone comes to expect.

Good point, this is something that REmake definitely does better than 2 since it more or less begins and starts at the foyer of the mansion whereas in 2 once you leave the police station you never go back.
REmake feels a lot more cohesive in its design.

Exactly. The fact that you make your descent towards the lab from the same foyer you started in gives the game a circle of advancement that other games rarely emulate. This is why parts in games like Half-life 2 when you return to the city are satisfying to play because its providing the "Hero's return" of the Hero's Journey which games rarely provide in the chase to provide new stimulating settings.
