It's pretty fun. Kind of gets a bit formulaic once you figure out the trick to dogfighting and get a few glyphs/subroutines and a good set of blueprints to craft your favorite weapons. There's not many enemy craft types or level sets surprisingly. It's enough to work with, but once you learn how the "tile sets" like asteroids, bases, etc work you can almost always go to them on any map and find the same crates/resources placed. 6-7/10 fun enough

Pros.
>tight, high skill celling space combat (but very arcadey, since the ship is VERY responsive and fight velocity vectors are basilcy non existant.)
>great visuals
>good story
>lots of replay-value, since the combat is great and it don't feel like a chore to get though levels over and over again

Cons
> no ship visual customisation except the colors
> few weapons
>only three ships (and eventhough each of those plays in whole diffrent way, another 2-3 will be great)

not when you get 3+ elites of fighter/bombers + drone swarm at once every sector past 4 on hard.

it not like those encounters are impossible, but they eat up a lot of consumables and the war attition is what is killing me atm.

Dunno, maybe other ships have easier time to deal with this, since I've maxed out only scout for now.

Bombers And drone carriers are the only things that give me any troublewhen I'm not using beeline. But I honesty rarely use consumables outside of some drones. A time extender is all I ever really need in my interceptor. If they get close/start winning just time extend and run away for a little. I'm happy to see elites usually, that means access keys! Fusion blaster ma2 + extender for life.

I prefer gatling 40mm, but I've always had giant boner for projectile and missle weapons in space combat. That dakka sound and trail of bullets whille turbo-boosting as scout on time extender gets me hard every time.

Beeline is a subroutine that disables homing missiles globally. You can't use them, and ai can't use them. Hardly a problem for me but it absolutely castrates missile emplacements and bombers.

It took me only 15 runs to beat the game and I haven't lost since. You absolutely could win with a vanilla interceptor. Might need some lucky weapon drops and to not get screwed by a drone carrier jammer tho.
