call me an asshole, but i kinda prefer when games are either exclusively multiplayer/singleplayer. focusing on one aspect tends to result in the other feeling underdeveloped. there are exceptions, of course but if i feel like playing single player i can just go play a single player game.

If you like RO2/RS you'll probably like it, just don't expect it to be a major upgrade to RO2.
It's basically a standalone expansion to RO2, but the price tag reflects that.

It's still in a little bit of a rough state with several bugs and a small number of crashes present. It's in a playable state and most of the time enjoyable to play, but it could have used a while longer in beta.
They've already put out plans to get the first patch out before July, so hopefully that irons out most of the bigger issues.

I feel like they really fucked over the pacing of the game. RS1 and RO2 had near perfect pacing where there was time for you to formulate strategies and flanks on enemy positions. The massive ticket pools we get now basically means you're not really punished as a grunt to just run in and see if you can pick someone off.

I use mouse and keyboard.

When going down for landing, brake by turning sharp left or right and then plob down ln the ground. Speed is essential if a VC rpg makes it his goal to snipe hueys.

Go in the practice mode and play with your controls, for me the default layout is awful and I have to change everything.

Enable the advanced flight model and look up what ground effect and translational lift are, if you don't already know. Practice flying in the offline range and try to get good at flying without pitching your nose up or down very far.

Pay attention to your RPM when increasing collective past ~75%. The Cobra is particularly susceptible to losing RPM since it weighs more, so try not to increase the collective to more than 75-80% at any time when flying it. The Huey is a little more forgiving, and the Cayuse even more so.
You can press G to engage auto-hover, but it's really a crutch so don't get used to using it. To do it manually you want to pitch up while decreasing collective to slow your groundspeed without increasing altitude.
It can be helpful to come in to the side of your LZ and do a banking U-turn to kill your groundspeed before landing. This will give you a moment to survey the LZ for obstacles and orient yourself, but also gives the enemy more time to shoot you.

Also make sure to toggle the tactical view on when flying so you can see enemy markers, and bind the map key to a more easily reachable key. Preferably a mouse button if possible.
