why are the bosses so damn hard??

You're probably underleveled. Fucking worst things about Japanese RPGs of any type, it's always gotta have grinding at some point or another in order for the player to be around the intended level for the content. The game doesn't get truly hard until you unlock the highest difficulty.

Be at least 14 or 15? Also you wanna be jumping around a lot in this fight, and keep in mind that sometimes you wanna wait till he makes himself vulnerable before you strike.

Make sure you buy new armor n stuff when available

If you deal 1 damage to bosses despite having an updated weapon you're probably underlevelled

Unfortunately, yeah most likely this. Damn shame the game isn't just boss rush with story. The fact you have to run around getting gear and hitting your required level to fight the boss is basically just a bunch of busywork to pad time.

are you doing like 1 damage? did you get the sword upgrade before fighting him? can't remember where it is in that area exactly, but i do remember fighting and beating him without it and it taking me like 20 tries, but then playing it again later and getting the upgrade took me like 2 or 3.

Oath in Felghana is pretty fucking easy.

It's the only Ys game I've played to completion, and the only big problem I had was that platforming on ice part, wasted way more time on there than in any of the bosses.
