Hello, AMD shills.
$2,000 and all they've got as a selling point is "great VR experience", like the CPU even fucking matters at all for that shit.

nope, I just think it's dumb they're marketing for a dead gimmick
Blunder of the century

I don't know /g/ stuff.
What does this do?
>>379126901
It starts a house fire and gives you buyer's remorse.
>i9
wtf is an i9?
>>379127027
they literally took their planned xeons, rebranded them as i9's, and then fuse off a bunch of mobo features when you use them that you have to buy extra keys for to plug into your mobo so you buy a xeon instead of the cheaper i9 for server functions.
Is this shit even for gaming or running 20 VMs on a server somewhere?
>>379127237
They took their "20 VMs on a server somewhere" processors and rebranded them as gaming/enthusiast cpus so they could compete with AMD core counts in their new line of cpus.
>>379126170
go away linus
>>379126232
A rename for the HEDT CPUs now filled with unsold Xeon CPUs and an OCed version of the i5 7600k and i7 7700k inside a platform focused on Workstations. You don't need to be a shill to see that Intel is still not playing the game correctly friendo.
>>379125598
>2k
>>379127568
Calling it now, people are going to be delidding these and fucking them up when they realize they can't compete with overclocked skylake i7's that have the solder. Then you'll see a bunch of social media posts about how it's intel's fault (which it is, really, but they still fuck it up with their own hands.)
>>379127363
Does 8+ cores even have an effect on games? I thought 4 cores was more than satisfactory.
>>379127179
wtf?
>>379128260
Depends on the game. Most are made to rely on high clockspeed with minimal threads because that's what consoles do, but I'm sure there's lots of gaming on PC that can benefit from higher core counts, I just don't know enough because I have a pretty wimpy cpu myself.
So they're selling dlc for CPUs now? Or was that always a thing?
I was considering upgrading to an i5, what's this nonsense about?
>>379128014
What chips are soldered?
>>379129313

>>379126897
I never heard of the Raid key before. and its already just like the Pentium 4 shit.
>>379129438
They used to solder their chips with indium between the heatspreader and the actual chip, and it's got the best thermal conductivity of anything you could reasonably put in there (Copper has better conductivity, but it expands too much.)
They've opted for a cheaper to manufacture thermal paste now, "Thermal Interface Material," they call it, but it's just paste similar to the stuff you buy to put between the heatspreader and heatsink.
>>379130040
Can't wait for the day they have mobos that need to connect to the internet to check your subscription account verify your X-TREME Performance Level to unlock the right ammount of PCIe channels and cores for your cpu.
>>379130272
Keep buying and that is exactly how it will go.
I'm cool with """""older""""" CPUs getting cheaper now
Has Intel made an architecture worth upgrading to since Haswell?
>>379130041
yea yeah i know how thermal dynamics work.
Can you name CPU's which IHS are soldered in to chip?
>>379131613
Skylake was a big jump. Ddr4 support on mainstream boards and all these other features. Going from Haswell straight to kaby lake isn't a bad upgrade either but going from skylake to kaby is maximum retard.
