Taro had a clear vision and was specifically paired with a development team who covered his flaws perfectly. It was a match made in heaven.

That being said, people are way too hard on FFXV. I think it turned out very well considering its troubled development cycle. But yeah, Automata is a vastly superior game.

I really liked Nier:A.

The sidequests were fucking awful though.
I kept expecting one to have a unique enemy, area or narrative but it never happened.
MMO-tier glorified fetch quests mostly, while trying to get you to backtrack as much as possible to pad the game time.
Very few had some interesting twists (amnesia and the wandering couple come to mind) and the majority had no voice acting and throw-away characters

Like that one where you explore the bottom of canyon and find some dead bots along with damaged functioning bots, and then you learn that they've been throwing themselves off the canyon ledge to kill themselves and only some managed to pull it off while the rest were trapped

I'd say blame the 2B ass topics that were spammed for months. Alot of people got the game mostly due to them and then claimed Automata was the best thing since sliced bread, while its pretty mediocre compared to 1. Personally I would have preferred a setup similar to 1 with expanded mechanics, but Automata wasn't a bad play.
