No, the stadium 1 we got was the updated version of jp stadium 1 (which was called stadium 2 in japan)
NA/EU Stadium 2 is Stadium Gold/Silver in Japan.
tl:dr
Stadium 1 was japan only
jp stadium 2 was na/eu Stadium 1
Stadium Gold/Silver is NA/EU Stadium 2

As barebones as Battle Revolution was, it got the job done. I prefer the old rental system but the new one feels like they tried something different by taking from what the Battle Factory did, with players trading in their old, shitty rentals for better ones after winning a match. The problem with that, though, is that by doing that it becomes a single player only experience, since the second player would either be stuck with awful defaults or have to play through Gateway at least ten times to get the team they wanted, whereas in Stadium they can just pick their mons and play.

In the end I just injected almost every mon into a Pearl save and put them into the game to simulate old rentals, since Gen IV's gameplay is such a huge improvement.
>>
>>379111717
Absolutely! It could be even better than what Mario Party has been in the last 5 games Nintendo published.

Seems like all The Pokemon Company approves nowadays is either phone games or more of the same but with as little effort on improvements as possible
>>
>>379110795

Beating it with your own mons makes it too easy. Rentals have terrible stats and moves.
>>
Do these games emulate well with retroarch?
>>
>>379112171
Battle revolution legitimately looks really good even today I think
>>
>>379111058

Story is

>Japan got Pokemon Stadium. It was a bare bones piece of shit that only let you actually use like 30 mons. It was really only meant to be a tournament display tool.
>They got a more complete Stadium 2. That was the version everyone else got as Stadium.
>The GS tie in was just called Pokemon Stadium Gold & Sliver. That came to the rest as Pokemon Stadium 2.
>>
>>379111553

PBR bombed (because lel no content) and so they don't see how they can market the game to casuals when the main games have 3d now.
>>
It's a one-hit wonder!
>>

Battle Rev rental passes weren't the same.

What I really miss is challenge cup.
>>
>>379113394
still I was having somewhat hopes given that platinum and all of the gen 5 games had a notably higher difficulty curve than other pokemon games

and then X/Y come out and they're easier than gen 1
>>
>stadium 2 ai literally makes decisions based off the move you picked in the same turn
Makes beating round 2 all the more satisfying considering you more or less beat an entire game of cheaters.
>>

Battle Revolution's OST was amazing though. Wish we could have more songs like this in a Pokemon game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyHcy8249bY

Not only that, but the enemies in Round 2 all had max stats (well, in Little Cup at least...I trained my Scyther to be one point below max spe for level 5 and still got outsped by the last guy's Scyther every time).
Luckily, the enemy teams are so shitty that the bull that the ai pulls doesn't matter too much. I still this game is a lot easier than Stadium 1.

BRT was easy, too, but at least had more item management involved and a slight threat where you had to keep new allies alive for the whole dungeon.

It's really not that good. People give Explorers of Sky credit for its story, which is a "step above the main series", when pretty much anything can be better than the main series' non-stories.
The plot is very standard time travel shenanigans, and almost every character had so little focus that they were hardly even characters. In the end, only 4 Pokemon could even be considered "characters". Your protagonist, a mute who has all sorts of special snowflake powers, your annoying ass partner who constantly whines and uses you as emotional support instead of maturing, Grovyle, a stock brooding serious shonen protag with a shiny legendary having the hots for him (said shiny legendary is impossible to get in the actual games, too, making him even more of a snowflake), and Dusknoir, a standard backstabber whose introduction was half-assed. The Special Episodes helped with Wigglytuf (a one-dimensional manbaby in the main storyline), Armaldo (never appears in the main story) and Dusknoir, but everyone else was still as shallow as it gets.

Gameplay-wise, it's much easier than BRT, which was already simple outside of optional postgame areas. The only remotely difficult part of Sky is its postgame dungeon, which is easy to cheese by using a mon with an evasion or offensive ability. No PMD has ever been hard, but Sky is so easy it's almost VN-tier.

I only got Battle Rev for sweet-looking online battles against randoms. Now that side of the game is long dead and the game disc is more or less worthless to me. I could try beating all the single player stuff but it didn't seem anywhere near as fun as the Stadium games.

I'm also disappointed that the game was rushed out, the first teaser trailer had a bunch of cool shit like moves destroying the environment and camera pans that looked way better than anything in the final game.

And the list goes on... Not much long, since those were only pinball games, but still... I love all of them both gameplay and OST wise. An updated experience could be glorious, with one board for each generation. With 3D models things would be even easier to make. Just a matter of someone pitching the project, since I bet it wouldn't be costy. Ah well, such good times....

I know people like the Orre games, but I think the Stadium games got it right, while Battle Revolution was bare bones. I don't need a big console version of Pokémon.

One of the cool things about the Stadium games was being able to see your Pokémon as animated 3D models rather than static 2D sprites. A new Stadium game's visual appeal would have to come from seeing HD models of all 802 Pokémon at 60 fps. It would also be cool if it had the initial intended visual flair of Battle Revolution shown at the Nintendo Co. Ltd Corporate Management Policy Briefing in June 2006. Things like the dynamic camera and lasting damage to the stadium through moves like Hyper Beam create a really cool visual style not present in any of the games. Having all the different rule sets and battle types present throughout the franchise along with the obligatory Free Battle mode would be cool.

It was also really cool being able to play your Game Boy games on a TV, and even at a higher speed than what was normally available. Maybe they could do something like that for the 3DS games, but with better performance overall.

You could also transfer your Pokémon over and organize them, check their stats, and create custom teams for battling.

I remember the minigames, the Trainer school with lessons and challenges that taught you to use more complex strategies, the quizzes, the library of every item and move, the Mystery Gift benefits, Gym Leader Castle, Team Rocket, the Elite Four, Red, unlocking Ho-Oh and Lugia, being able to create rental teams of all 251 Pokémon at the time, etc. If that could just be updated to Gen VII standards, I'd be thrilled. But I feel like that'll never happen since Pokémon games will probably just move to the Switch.

It's literally on my to do list. I've raged so hard at that game for over a decade now and I still can't beat it

one thing I dont like about newer pokemon games is that so many pokemon can learn so many different coverage moves that the whole type system is completely fucked

most fighting types can learn atleast one good rock or dark type move. Its kinda fucked.

No the game boy game were really ugly, so any 3D make it so incredible at the time.
They are right to be fair, just having the game in good graphic 3D at the end of the day, doesn't add anything, it's fun one day, and then what?

The good thing they never replicated was the mini game, they could have done a mario party clone where you could bring you pokemon from the pokebank to participate for example or whatever but no, just shit.

A Nuzlocke in Sun or Moon can be legitimately challenging at points. Totem Pokémon can wreck your team because they're actually set up with strategy in mind. Sun was the first game I felt like I had to use stat boosting moves outside of a battle facility or multiplayer.

I think colosseum is better, even if mechanically less refined.

Nuzlocke is really unbalanced due to how Pokémon is made. A single crit can take out your best 'mon without you having any control or the death being your own fault. I personally don't care for them.
If you want Pokémon games to challenge you more, you can either play ROMhacks that boost the difficulty or do other challenge runs like 0 Exp runs (requires a Gameshark code obviously).

Nuzlocke is kinda stupid, either you grind and eliminate the chance of ever losing, or you go in without grind, suffer some 'deaths' on your team, refill those slots on the next couple routes and then grind their asses off so that they don't die to a light breeze.

What's actually fun is a low level run. No killing wild monsters for Exp ever, only Exp gains you are allowed come from trainers. If you want extra challenge, keep a rotation between your team and the box, using more than six Pokemon so the Exp gets divided among more recipients.

I've been playing this way since gen 5, it makes for some tense battles, and another upside is getting to try out more kinds of Pokemon and team compositions.
>>
I'd love to play a Colosseum-styled game with updated mechanics. Gen VI felt like the perfect time to release another one, since the main games shifted into 3D and Megas now exist, so there could be an Orre/doubles game that has some mainline mechanics like wild mons, and Megas can be implemented as shadows that are forcefully evolved, or alternatively, the protagonist could use them to show that a Pokemon that can love is stronger than one that has their heart closed.

>>379119068
It's not. I genuinely don't see the appeal of the Mystery Dungeon series.

It's obviously not a fool proof story anon, it's gonna have a problems. I wouldn't call it a masterpiece or anything, but it's a bittersweet story and they really get you attached to your Partner.

You ever watched the Vacation Short before The First Movie? Where the team leave their Pokemon in the Resort to play with the others? With the crying Charizard? And the Cubone that learns to work with others? It's basically a game of that, with a little of it's own sprinkled in.

I miss slots but Voltorb Flip is still more fun. Ideally all the Game Corner games would be available at once but I doubt we'll ever see a Game Corner again.
>>
>>379118709
It's true that there's no more excitement to seeing your Pokémon in 3D since Gen VI came out. But it would be nice to see them battling at something above 240p, and at a solid 60 fps. I feel that a stadium game needs to be a companion game to the handheld games. There should be tangible benefits to owning it that complement your handheld games.
>Stadium (Japan) - Teach Pikachu Surf
>Stadium 2 (Stadium internationally) - Amnesia Psyduck, teach Pikachu Surf (outside Japan)
>Stadium: Gold/Silver & Crystal (Stadium 2 internationally) - Baton Pass Farfetch'd, Earthquake Gligar, Pikachu Bed/Unown Doll/Tentacool Doll through Mystery Gift, battling Carrie's teams at Trainer House after using Mystery Gift
>Colosseum/XD - various purified Shadow Pokémon that weren't generally available until Emerald, many with special moves, and even Ho-Oh and Lugia which were event-only in Generation III, plus various items and TMs that could be transferred over
>Battle Revolution - Surfing Pikachu, Electivire, Magmortar, rare berries, and lots of rare items that could be transferred over
>>
>>379120201
Yeah and shove in pinball, trozei and all those other pokemon spinoff games into it.
>>
>>379120252
No one actually played the Game Corner anon. They just used their money to buy coins so they don't have to grind for hours just so that one of their Pokemon could use Flamethrower or to get a Dratini.

Laziness. Usually happens between gens, however. Note that the Sinnoh Battle Frontier was in HGSS but was removed in BW, or how PSS and Super Training were in ORAS but got cut in SM. Their argument is that by removing features, the older games would be unique, but it's clear that it's just GF being lazy. ORAS's lack of customization caused a lot of fans to get upset, and while GF said that it was so Kalos could be unique since France was fashionable, the next games re-added the feature and included new things like hatless trainers and glasses.
>>
>>379120845
Callum was such a fucking fag holy shit. He probably took dicks up the ass in the alleys of Lumiose while the game was turned off.

>ORAS's lack of customization caused a lot of fans to get upset, and while GF said that it was so Kalos could be unique since France was fashionable, the next games re-added the feature and included new things like hatless trainers and glasses.

I thought that was mostly due to different teams handling the remakes and main gen games.
>>
>>379120989
That's still an internal problem of GameFreak if the teams don't have any kind of communication between them.

http://www.usgamer.net/articles/so-does-pokemon-omega-ruby-and-alpha-include-trainer-customization
>In terms of the customization of the trainer, that was really kind of a special thing for the Kalos region, which featured this kind of motif of France and really focused on this beauty and fashion aspect, which is why it was a prominent feature in that game. For this game, we're focusing on adventuring elements, so we don't have the actual free customization of the trainer, but you'll see the items you use throughout the game visually represented; for example, when you're underwater, you'll have this little mouthpiece that lets you breathe. So there's some cool stuff for how your trainer changes clothes and puts on accessories throughout the game.
In the end it was just a shitty excuse since GF didn't want to bother with making extra clothes for May.
