I believe there's an option for English language text in the Japanese version of the game, so emulate that. The only obstacle to playing the uncensored game legitimately is the 3DS region lock.

I played through this game a couple of years ago and I didn't mind the repetition, my friend completed it recently and he complained about how he had to do the same thing for like 6 times and it made me realize how dumb that is. They could have made it into: do the thing 3 times and it triggers the true ending and it would have been better.
The good thing is that we actually get to see the different worlds and learn more about the other character's stories.

It's kinda boring compared to the first. They've added some fun new jobs and QoL improvements but ultimately the plot meanders around and resembles something out of shounenshit, while the battles get monotonous really fast. You'll get used to the pattern of asterisk battles where it's Boss + Guy with Shield + Guy with Lance + Guy with Magic being reused constantly really fast.

Also the subquests were fucking awful and they don't do what BD did with arranging the asterisk users for challenge fights.

First one had some awkward pacing, because every battle faded out of the overworld and into an arena. LK2 did away with that entirely and made battles just happen in the overworld. It also introduced transformation cards which made world exploration more interesting.

It was 100% an improvement over the first. First one's still good though. Emulate them if you can.

I got it when it came out and was really enjoying it, but I got around the fire area and suddenly I'm underleveled as fuck and get raped by everything.

I think I managed my party's jobs poorly or something, and that the best bet might just be to restart, but I really don't feel like going through the trouble of that and have just sat on the game for 2 years instead.

On another note, have you blade XC/X? Most people praise the original, but personally X is one of my favorite RPGs of all time. If you haven't tried it, and have a U, you should.

Remember to shuffle jobs. Once a job reaches level 8, it takes another 3500 JP to level it up again, which is enough to level up an entirely different job from 1 to 8. You'll miss out on a lot of useful abilities if you doggedly stick to a single setup.
