I can't tell what it's combat system is supposed to be based on the gameplay footage. It looks halfway between Tales and turn based, and not in any kind of good way. You move freely while all other characters stand still and you can't attack until they've done their attack which they do automatically. That's what it looks like anyway. Doesn't look good.

Yuji Horii himself said that the best one for newcomers is IV, then play V which is regarded as the best DQ by the majority of the fanbase and play VI because its the last one in that trilogy. Then play VII, VIII or IX in whichever order you want, they aren't sequences or correlated to each other. Lastly play I, II and III in that order because they are connected.
