>praised as "Ico for PC"
>hype hype hype
>release day cometh
>12k sales
>already stagnant
>a regular programmer costs 30k a year

What went wrong?

Could it be that the Ico/SotC crowd is just a bunch of pretentious loud babys that prefer to praise their favorite "smart people" toy on the internet over actually buying and playing games?

Pretty much the same shit as with last guardian.

>tfw another dev fell for the nostalgia meme
>>
Oh yeah, source on sales numbers:

This can feed a team of about 4-5 people.

Currently Tequilla Works has roughly 50 (!) employees.
>>
Why does a game being praised as similar too or drawing inspiration from, an old classic game mean that somehow everyone who has ever considered themselves a fan of that old game must then go out and buy it?

How exactly does that make any sense?

It MIGHT make sense if the fans of Ico were the ones praising Rime as a spiritual successor or something, but that's not where the comparison came from. It was the reviewers.
>>

>>
Wasn't the game cracked right away?

I would normally disagree that piracy actually hurts sales, but in the case of PC gaming, piracy is definitely a rampant practice. Ironically though, I do think it's DRM and copy-protection that keep people from buying games. These protection schemes involve so much bullshit like expiring keys, backend clients or always-online validation that no one wants to bother. I mean, you're practically just renting the game even though you purchased a physical copy.

The game isn't a walking sim, but I did find it pretty boring. Puzzles weren't consistently clever, and overall I can tell why Sony dropped this as an exclusive; way too similar to what Team Ico and thatgamecompany have made. I think the only significant difference is that this story is a lot less ambiguous (it's specifically about loss).

More like I've never heard of Rime or if its a project that pushed a system to its fullest.

Case in point, Ico was a PS1 game that was so ambitious they just put it to PS2. Sounds familiar? Last Guardian went through the same thing on PS3 and move to PS4.
Only the PS2 was the oddball in that it had enough juice to have SotC work without a generation leap.

You know what's interactive?

Fucking Thief is.
Ultima Underworld is interactive.
Deus Ex is interactive.
Determining the ending of Silent Hill 2 is interactive
Those games are fucking interactive anon!

Walking sims aren't even adventure games on rails.
They just show you one thing after the other, giving you maybe a tiny item combination at one point and some pretentious or badly written story to wash it down.

They give you the possibility to walk through an environment and look at garbage models and call it a day.

Sorry "dear" anon but that shit just doesn't cut it,

Shadow of the Colossus isn't a walking simulator, it's an action-adventure game. You actually have weapons, and you have to go around stabbing things to win. You also have to hunt fruits and lizard tails to boost your health and stamina so the colossi don't make quick work of you.

It's a 5/10, I'm not surprised it's not popular because it's not all that good.
Though I'm sure there are some spics that'll hype it up since the devs are from Spain.
That said, I was surprised, Deadlight was great, so seeing how mediocre this game was was somewhat disappointing.

Exactly.

When your game is threadbare in some (or all ways), what IS there needs to be executed very well and polished to a mirror sheen.

I guess sony made the right call to drop thier ass years back. If only they did the same with no man's sky.
>>
>>379075393
I saw the developer compare the work to art and that made me vomit internally. So, I ignored the game.

>>379075393
You can't just copy an old idea for an artistic game, it's known as an advancement in the medium when it does something new well, therefore, copying old games won't work out as well

there's no relation between intelegence and being able to apreciate the finer things in life, also i wasn't aiming to argue over what constitutes good taste, i was pointing out the obvious which another anon also did before me

books and movies don't cut it for me anymore, i need a superior audio/visual interactive experience to actually have a good time, wich for the moment is video games which i love so much that i've dedicated the last 25 years to expand my tastes and view of this ever so special medium, if other people disqualify a game even before they have played it, because it doesn't cater to their limited taste, then so be it, i won't discuss anything vidya related with that person, but i will point out their flaws in their view.

Ico is not a walking simulator. You explore in and around a castle with the ultimate goal of escorting the castle's princess safely away from shadow beasts that come out of the walls if you take too long to advance from one room to the next. Each room has some kind of puzzle obstructing your path, and you occasionally have to instruct the princess to assist you with overcoming these obstacles. So it's more along the lines of an adventure / puzzle game.

Shadow of the Colossus is also not a walking simulator. You're dropped in a massive and open region with the task of hunting down and destroying 16 colossi. And yes, you actually have to fight them with weapons this time, not merely solve puzzles. The puzzle elements lie in figuring out how to reach a particular colossus, how to ascend it, and what the only vulnerable part of the colossus' body is. From there, you have to use a bit of strategy to keep yourself on the colossus without draining your stamina and getting tossed off. The colossi can also directly attack you.

I have no idea what the deal is with RiME since I've never played it. It may very well be a "walking simulator," but let's get our facts straight here: Ico and SotC are not walking simulators in the least. If RiME is a walking simulator, that would certainly be unprecedented if you're considering it to be some kind of spiritual successor to Ico and SotC.

Rime is just incredibly slow paced, and you do spend a lot of time doing nothing but walking, because you're on a relatively large island and the puzzles are spaced out

I never actually played Ico, but if you have to walk from one side of the castle to another side just to access another puzzle, then they're the same

Maybe its just not as good as Ico

Honestly I had interest in it but forgot about it and didn't even know it released. I'll buy it but only on sale.

I'm saving my money for the Valkyrie Drive and Ultra Despair Girls PC releases. Don't have cash to spare for something like this.
