I've never understood Tekken.
The game is so fucking fun when you just memorize the character's moves and play vs. people who do the same.

But then you get to the part where people only know the 10-hit combos, or focus on juggle/floor locking you by chaining the moves, and the game becomes utter fucking cancer. A race to see who can land the first hit of their combo/chain.

Literally cringe at the level of Dark Souls backstab fishing. Fishing for combos.

Like, I refuse to learn that level of Tekken on sheer principal. It triggers me.

I think you misunderstand how this game works:
If you use moves that are unsafe you will be punished. You can totally play a poke based game, but you should know which moves are for poking as in "safe".
Usually you only get juggled for making a mistake, as launchers are almost alaways unsafe and shouldn't be spammed.
So either you just use stupid moves and cry when you get punished or you literally just mash buttons.

Actually the new characters have some "easy" combos. Of course this will still require like an hour of practice or more if you are a total beginner, but if you like the concept of 3d fighting I would invest the time. Tekken 7 actually made many things easier and streamlined difficult aspects for the new characters: Certain central moves are easy to access (like crush moves, punishers), launchers and combo moves are bufferable and require only few directional inputs (for easy combos at least).

I'm checking the frame data now and it seems on average the "fastest" moves in the game are generally about 10 frames unless I'm mistaken.

Know your launchers and combos for every situation.
I'll take Asuka for example.
Standard launchers like df+2 or f+2 are obvious, but low launcher 3~4 can only continue with move that picks up low enemy - in that case 1+4. however low parry can't be continued with 1+4 - it has to be continued with (ws)1. Also how to combo after sidestep, since if enemy is off-axis your normal combos will drop.

Learn easy combos with a few hits first. This way you can apply an easy sample combo every time you "accidentaly" launch or float (that means hitting them while they jump) somone. This way you'll get the reflex of comboing airborne opponents, if you have that skill you can maximize your combos.
Always play reactively, if your opponent spams jabs, duck and hit them, or even find out the move that launches them if you let go of the "down" command (these are called while rising). If your opponent spams low moves, use the hop kick and combo. Also try out sidestepping,and your sidestep moves sometimes it is the best answer to circle strave your opponent, so that he is against the wall.

No. One of the hardest characters. Many stances and mix ups, some very hard combos, and he only works if you can apply pressure i.e. use all the hard shit. You might also get caught up in abusing is special abilities instead of learning the basics of Tekken, as did I for a long time.
Sure, you can spam and button mash against total beginners or even abuse cheap launchers, but any medium player will eat you up.
