What do you think bout this game?
Never seen anything about it until yesterday, picked up the remaster or whatever edition there was with all DLC, on the 2nd mission and so far this is really fun.
Really tickles the "go find every little coin hidden in each corner of the world and complete the objectives without killing anything" completionist side of me.
The AI is a bit retarded at times but overall I think it's pretty neat, also the upgrades system is nice.

It's basically Thief meets Bioshock and I can't say no to that.

Heard there was a sequel too, might pick that up when I finish this one, which might not be soon since exploring every level for 10 hours until you find everything may take a bit to beat it.
It's really surprising no one's ever talking about this, is it really unpopular?
Did it get overshadowed by some other release at the time?
Because damn, this is great.
>>
Great game, the story DLCs are great too, and so is the sequel.
>>
>>379061421
It got hyped to hell and kind of a bit fell short, same the with the sequel.
Still a great game and the DLCs are good as well.
>>
It was actually pretty successfully, fortunately.
The sequel, on the other hand... Just as good, but it sold like shit.
>>
It's a great game, highly recommendable. The DLCs are top notch as well, arguably even better than the main game.
>>
>>379061421
Well, I bought it, and decided to do a no kill run (basically meant no detection as well), and I found it to be so incredibly fucking frustrating I had to give up like 60% of the way through.

I swear, I had to reload saved in my 20 or so hours of playtime more than I ever had in all my of time playing stalker SOC and COP on master difficulty combined.

I just kept getting seen, enemies kept appearing out of seemingly nowhere, and it seemed like every little part of the game was out to get me. I could visualize what I had to do, and I generally COULD do it, but an enemy would always seem to turn around at in inopportune moment.

It seems like a lot of effort went into the game, but I just got far too frustrated to keep going.

I kind of enjoyed it but only because i limited myself to a non-violent non-detection playthrough without any powers except blink (and even that because the game would be literally impossible without blink).
Playing it like a retard version of Thief was kind enjoyable. Using all powers makes you simply too powerfull and drains the fun out of the game.
>>
>>379062013
What were even the other powers in the game besides blink?
I only used that because iirc all the other shit was for killing.
it's been so long
>>
>>379061421
Is the remaster better than the original?
What did they change?
>>
>>379062154
Stopping Time or turning into a Rat at the top of my Head for example.
>>
>>379062154
Time stop and blink let you just speed through huge areas at incredible high speeds without having to worry about anything.
>>
>arbitrarily limiting yourself to a no kill challenge run on your first playthrough, instead of trying out and playing around with all the various options/tools you have on offer

Why do people do this? Does everyone hate fun?
>>
>>379062784
Having a challenge is fun.
>>
>>379062784
But that is more fun that just killing everything, that would be boring.
>>
>>379062224
The OG Dishonored came out in 2012 for 360, ps3 and pc. The remaster is basically just the version that is on current generation consoles and comes bundled with the DLC. There aren't any discernible differences, except for rendering resolution on consoles.
>>
>>379062784
I did it for the first one, but for 2 I'm just going with the flow of what I feel like.
Feels like I have less time now.

Don't be fooled if you hear laughter, or happen upon a smile. There is no lightness or merriment here.
>>
>>379062926
Well I'm going to presume that you've never tried doing a violent playthrough, because playing it like a murder mayhem simulator is far more riveting than just blinking past everything and occasionally knocking out an asshole or two

>>
>>379062784
It would be a fun challenge if doing a no-kill no-power run wasn't also mind-numbingly easy.
>>
>>379061421
I loved it (especially the Daud DLCs) and I thought the sequel was even better. The AI was improved and the level design was one of the best I've seen in years.

I wouldn't say it's unpopular, but it definitely doesn't get the same attention as most AAA titles. It's a first-person single player game that's not open world, so it has a smaller audience from the start.
>>
This "killing is bad" thing was really bothering me, but anon told me bad ending is better and that I must have fun with all available weapons and abilities at my disposal. Damn he was right. I maxed out rats and windblast for the first time and it' was super fucking fun.
>>
No kill runs are too damn boring as theres nothing more to it than figuring out a pattern of where and when guards go and turn or where security cameras are looking. Its the same principle always, be it Dishonored, MGS or Deus Ex. Even in theory that shits nothing but tedious even worse than collectathons you need to be off the shallow end of the spectrum to find that stuff enjoyable.
Its like that movie Primer as in I theoretically get it and thats good enough I really dont need to map it all out let alone play through it.
>>
>>379061421
No one really talks about it because its just a great game, not much else to say about it, really unique atmosphere

I don't know man, choking everyone was pretty fun for me. It pretty much forces you to take it slower and then you can really immerse yourself in the world and see all the details.

For both games I did a low chaos run first and took my time with it. For my second playthrough I just went full killing mode and that was fun too, but I'm not sure I would've appreciated the game as much if I just slaughetered everyone and just rushed through the game. Ghost runs can be fun too, mostly because it gives you the satisfaction of finishing levels without being detected. I would never do it on my first playthrough though, since it can be pretty frustrating (at least for me).

>why people do non-lethal runs in all those games.

Because it's a fun challenge to do when you're familiar with the game. Doing it on your first playthrough just seems silly to me, you're essentially holding yourself back from fully exploring the game and are bound to end up savescumming (unless you're some sort of stealth prodigy).

It's a good game. Some fun mechanics in a cool setting with some cool gameplay ideas (loved the heart), with a story that's a little too basic. The morality mechanics or whatever that decide the ending aren't very good either. But overall it's fun and the world is awesome.
>>
>>379061421
I honestly like it more than Dishonored 2.

The second game had a worse story and had a real "been there, done that" kind of feel.
>>
>>379064074

>>
One of my favorite games.
>>
>>379064074
Dishonored was a better Thief game, and that game was a failed attempt to make a proper Thief game
>>
>>379064304
The morality mechanics are great, they're just poorly explained.

Kill the majority of NPCs in a level and your chaos rating goes up, kill less than 40% of NPCs in a level and your chaos rating goes down.

It's only problem is that individual moral choices only affect minor things.
>>
>>379061421
It's great. Gameplay and level design are top notch. Story is just okay, but very good atmosphere and visual design in general. DLC are good too.

Dishonored is excellent. It's even better than the first one on almost every point. Problem is the story is a bit poor this time, and the biggest issue : the game runs like shit. They fixed some problems with updates, but it's still a mess.
>>
Pretty solid game. The evil route is the most fun
>>
>>379062013
The most satisfying thing is treating using powers as a reward for doing a non-violent non-detection run. You can go back through the level and destroy everyone with some real catharsis.

Lady Boyle's Party is perfect for this.

Dishonored is a very good game.
Once you get the unfucked Blink in the Daudlowdable content, you're golden.

Dishonored 2 has better levels on the whole, but somehow I still prefer the first's story. That basically puts them on even footing for me.

Dish2 is really just more of the same, but with more options, which is perfect for a sequel imo.

Hope you keep enjoying it.

I loved it to bits. The first stealth game I played where it felt like stealth gave me more options than going for kills did, rather than less, yet the chaos system was lenient enough that I didn't feel like I needed to restart the level if I fucked up a room and had to fight my way out
the ironic fates that you inflicted on all the nonlethal target outcomes were extremely cathartic
the aesthetic was top notch, and I greatly appreciated the worldbuilding with the optional stuff like the witch and the painter

My only real complaint was that the endings were a slideshow+voiceover. It seemed like each could be better off replace by even a six second rendered cutscene with o narration that told you everything you need to know (Corvo beside Emily as a good queen, same as a bad queen, fucking off in a boat while the city burns in the distance)

You can play without Blink. That's the thing, Blink is overpowered because the game was made to to be playable without it.

Isn't that just for Dishonored 2? Cause in that you can refuse the Outsider's powers all together, but in the first one you still have Blink from the start.

Clockwork Mansion and Crack in the Slab were definitely the standouts, but I thought the Addermire Institute and the Royal Conservatory were great too. Underrated levels.

Really the only one that I thought was a bit underwhelming was the last one, at least compared to the other levels in the game.

I agree m8. I really like the party too.

Same. It was kinda unfocused imo.

The witch suddenly starting to sing freaked me out a bit in that level. Delilah's paiting world looked really nice too, but yeah overall it was the weakest.

Seeing how sequel flopped (simply because denuvo and shitty optimization fuck me)
We can pretty much forget about another game?

Can we talk about how shit the Heart was in D2?

It barely ever had anything to say about the level itself or specific things inside it, all the effort seemingly went to recording a 1000 throwaway lines to indicate if non-story NPCs were good/bad/very bad people. That was cool and all but like, fuck, dude - the reason it was so memorable and good at setting a tone in 1 was that it talked about where you were as well as who you saw.

I barely ever fucking used it in either playthrough once I realised 90% of the time it would just ramble through the same six lines over and over even when pointed at important mission objects and such.
