Yes, it's normal to suck shit when starting a fighting game. The learning curve is pretty steep, even if Tekken does allow a bit more experimenting at the start than most fighters.

New to Tekken, was getting owned in player matches as Dragunov, played Akuma this morning and won a few consecutive games.

I'm worried I'm just going to fall into a trap and play Street Fighter in 3D.

The customisation stuff is kind of cool but there are a lot of cases where there aren't two matching torsos and legs, eg. formal slacks without a formal shirt.

Pic related, had to go for a Man With No Name poncho look on my cowboy Akoomer, but I kind of like it. Guess it means you have to get a bit more creative.

And yes, Tekken has easy combos. It uses a mostly different combo system, you dial your shit in like in a mortal kombat game.

In tekken you can dial in your strings without even touching the other guy.
You literally ring them all in like when you call a guy on an old phone and then your guy plays them out.
There are more timing based juggles that follow that but thats how it mostly works.

In Street Fighter its mostly cancels and links. Either you cancel the current move into the next one or you put in one move in right after the other move finished for a link.
SF has some of those dial combos too but they are usually reseved for a select few characters in the roster.

Tekkens execution difficulty mostly comes from the movement. The movement system is pretty stupid overall.

Why are all brazillian characters always such spam trash? I hoped Katarina might be different, but the players online proved me wrong.

Look at around 30 seconds. Tekken allows you to cancel every movement option into every other movement option so you get stupidly precise control over space.
At the same time its a horrible grind to get at that level and it looks retarded.

They keep it like this in the game because korean legacy players want muh APM and they WILL boycott the series when that gets changed just like it was changed in Virtua Fighter.

To be honest you don't really need that much to get started, i've gone from 1st Kyu to Initiate with Dragunov with:
-Poke (standing d+2)
-Launcher (standing df 2 or while rising 2 if i just poked)
-Launch combo ( f+443 , b + 43 , dash, 312/Running 2)

It doesnt compare to animation changes for other fighters, like how much worse SF looked going from 3 to 4, and then how much better 5 is animated compared to 4.

I don't think 10-hit combos actually combo fully in the traditional sense- Tekken's training mode is a bit strange in how the combo counter works in that it kind of lies. You need to set the dummy to guard as its second action if you want to see what combos and what doesn't.

You could probably get a 10-hit to combo on back turned opponents though.

It's great, but a bit short. Character episodes are great too. The endings are miles better than in previous Tekken games and I'd take qiality over quantity anytime. The same as it was in Twisted Metal, people buy multiplayer-orientated games and think that they are entitled to receive 30 hours long single player.
