Even though it's not my personal favorite, it really is AoEII with the newest expansions. The fact that such an old game still receives such big updates that change the meta and make people go back to it, make it still fun to play and watch, makes it the best rts.

I just just finished a 3v3 game of AoE2 30 seconds ago; an ally and I got Persian douched.
That's the first time I've ever seen it done.
I thought I handled it pretty well, and we went on to win in the end, but I still have mad respect that they attempted it.

I'd love to see it actually succeed and win a game. I think you've got to leave 4 villagers behind (with 3 on wood 1 on stone) so that you can build a third TC after destroying your opponent's second.

Zero Hour all the way, few games managed to get that much personality into every single one of the units.

Turtling is very viable on AoE2, but only if you a have a wallable map and know how to fast castle.
If you're the pocket in team games then you can go Fast castle → Boom → Sling (give all your resources to an ally). This can be a very strong strategy, especially on maps like Arena, so much so that it was actually nerfed in the HD edition.

there are no good modern RTS games. Just the re-releases of the old classics...Cossacks 3 and Stronghold Crusader 2 are pretty decent, Dawn of War 3 is good but over priced with no content...

That being said if you like Real time tactics, you got Men of War, Steel Division (which is fantastic), War Games and the upcoming Call to Arms

stronghold hd is currently 99cents on steam. i've never played a stronghold game before and i enjoy aoe2 a lot. is it worth picking up?

Supreme commander FA with official suppor for 1 more year would have been it I think.

FAF is an ok community and game, though.
