I'm that guy. I've been doing it since the Sega CD, and can still play Sonic CD, Sewer Shark, and others just fine. I've never had a problem because I don't have immature people around my electronics most of the time. And when they come around, in to the cases they go.
Also, a spool of blank discs come stacked, with no damages.
From 25+ years of disc experience, drives and lose disc holders in the cases will cause more damage than stacking.

>go to friends house
>swap my scratched copy of a game for his copy
>never tell him
>>379038990
I was that friend as a kid. My room was a fucking trash heap. Sometimes literally, with trash making it impossible to walk anywhere.

>be pro gamer tier
>none of my games have any marks or damage whatsoever
>one day, I'm carelessly handling my fresh copy of Ape Escape 2
>it gets slightly chipped on the inner ring but thankfully the game plays fine
>catch all the monkeys for the true end
>game crashes right as I catch Specter, I clean the disc and redo the fight multiple times to no avail
And that's how I learned to always treat my shit with care.

Tons of PS2s inevitably start giving games laser burns after a while. Even if you keep games in their cases safely, you run the risk of your system suddenly eating discs.
>>379041206
I don't see a problem with this.
Least I keep the cases.
>>379042642
I'm guilty of this. It's kind of a mixture of laziness and impatience. Eventually, I set some time to fix it.

>Go to cousin's house

Good times being a poorfag freeloader.
>Lend Crash Bandicoot 2 to my younger cousin because my parents forced me too
>Said he lost it when I tried to get it back
>He literally stacked discs on top of each other instead of keeping cases
In hindsight, his room always smelled like dried piss, it was probably better if I just left it alone

Ps2 gta games were notorious for this. I was convinced as a 12 year old that rockstar and Sony were in cahoots to get people to buy multiple copies.
