Not directly related to mods or anything, but I always like telling this story.

When I was in Boy Scouts as a kid (circa 2001), we would often go to Scout Conventions where dozens of troops would gather and camp for a week or so. At one particular convention, some random old guy set up a bunch of PCs in a gazebo about a mile from camp (I guess he had a generator or something), and had them all connected via LAN. Myself and a bunch of other scouts made our way down, and we spent a few hours playing DOOM II multiplayer in a gazebo in the middle of the woods. I'll never forget that kind old man who just wanted to see some young lads splatter each other.

Been playing a lot of Doom on my phone. A moto g 4. Struggles a bit to run Brutal Doom but it's definitely playable. A bit of a slowdown when a lot of gibs and blood is on the screen, and sadly I can't find a way to completely turn it off, just turn it down but the slowdown still happens.
Death Foretold (D4T) is kinda like the new Doom. Has execution, the weapons from the new one and multiple mods for each gun to add more functionality or make them better. Also has a proper phone mode that tones down the enemy AI a bit and makes them slower with their aim. Helps a lot when you're getting used to phone controls.
Highly recommend both for an on-the-go Doom fix.

I played Metadoom recently with Scythe 2 and it was awesome until it became nothing but slaughtermaps, which Metadoom doesn't work well with.
Metadoom 4.0 recently came out however and I've been doing a run with Valiant Vaccinated, and it's tons of fun.

There are tons of fucking 10/10 mapsets for Doom. It's crazy how many legitimately amazing campaigns there are for the game.
Scythe 2, Unloved, Winter's Fury, Ancient Aliens, Valiant, Kama Sutra. The game is just a fucking treasure trove of amazing level design.

I think it has to do with how accessible modding the game is. A lot of new developers come into it to cut their teeth before moving on to more complex engines.

True classic levels simply dont exist anymore and they have actual detailed 3d models to render who chase the player, the maze like levels also dont work because each enemy is much more difficult and smart. So given all of that, yea its not a proper Doom but it is a good modern Doom and the best we could of hoped for with that in mind.

Okay ran out at 200/300 this time after getting the red key. You've got a real ammo starvation problem, which is a difficult thing to balance if you're doing it deliberately.
I call it a problem because you like cramped maze fights, meaning i'm forced to kill in simply to progress. You also like to include dead-ends with a sleeping monster, which is fine, but it's a big fat penalty because the only reward you've provided for bumping into that monster is a 1hp pot (a pickup usually used in that situation simply to hint that a secret wall is nearby).
The difficulty is fine but the ammo scarcity kills it. You allow the player to take the red key path first, before unlocking the SSG but it's basically suicide unless you're speedrunning.
My suggestions are centred around the placement of ammunition. if you're going to deprive the player of ammo, make it deliberate and of one type (eg: forced melee fights depletes shotgun, tanky swarms in mid range for rockets, bullets for chaingunners etc.) so you can make a setpiece fight more interesting. Else provide an abundance of ammo, something you can control readily before the player encounters a backpack. The difficulty should come more from surviving fights rather than penny-pinching every single piece of ammo. I really enjoyed the cliffs, if you plan on continuing work with this map, as you should, i'd strongly consider borrowing some non-standard textures and thinking about lighting.

you mean the zombie guys? Similar weakass fodder whose only purpose is to fill your ammo, like in original Doom games. They're also only barely "hitscan", as just like in ye olde Doom-clones, they lock down on your old location when aiming at you, thus making it easy to dodge their shots.

If you're referring to the Scorpions, those were already in TFE & TSE. They're such huge targets that you can easily rocket, or just pistol blast them off. They also signal their attacks very clearly.

This one's been brought up many times in the past, and I'd say that those sorcerers fall into a sub-boss category. They require a bit more tactical thinking than just S+M1, which I always appreciate.

But once again, SS3 is one helluva Doom-clone of modern times, this time even borrowing its visual designs more closely. If the maps were a bit more complex, it'd be easily the real Doom4 of our time.

Hitscanners can and will shoot you sometimes while strafing. Especially the goddamn fucking chaingunners, and I also disagree with the reloads adding depth, it just doesn't work in a game like Serious Sam.

And there's very little tactical thinking that can be done when you're out in the open backpedaling from other monsters and that bitch locks your controls up, the moment she starts effecting you, you're fucked, you slow down to a crawl and you can't even aim at her. It wouldn't be as bad if you could at least aim while being grabbed.

I also personally dislike how much focus they put on the more "conventional" weapons in SS3, oh sure you can still find the laser gun and cannon, but that shit isn't available til late game, or very well hidden, and ammo is especially rare until the final few stages. So must of the time you'll be ratta-tat-tatting with that boring ass assault rifle or that shotgun that has the slowest reload I've ever seen for a magazine based shotgun

Thanks man. I know the ammo count is a problem and I'm going to try to fix it when I go back in and edit the map. In regards to the SSG, you can get it by backtracking your way out of the maze right before the drop off into the reservoir. I put it there to reward players perceptive enough to notice the locked blue skull key door in the previous room. Also, how where do I get some nonstandard textures and how do I implement them? And what does "thinking about lightning" mean?

I believe Doom mappers borrow from other map pack's textures all the time as long as theyre credited by name. I forget what tool people use for extracting assets from someone else's wad but you'll find it on doomworld forums. Good practise is that you include all custom textures in your wad so people don't need to load other wads in conjunction.

They cause like 1 point of damage (AR guys) per shot, and have easily memorized attack patterns. Not to mention they tend to be literally unable to attack you if you sit further than a Knarr's eye throw distance.

And I agree to disagree. SS3 is a fine example how reloads AND sprinting add to the gameplay. Going back to TFE / TSE afterwards feels very underwhelming and plain out slow.

On top of making all of the weapons have their own specific purpose (the AR is actually its own thing, instead of just Minigun-Lite, like the Tommygun was), the fact that you have to deal with reloads on some of the weapons (= three of them) requires you to take said feature into account when rolling through your arsenal.

I've played the game like 4 times now, and I can only think of ONE scene where this could even be possible. In most encounters, you only face those Witches OR other enemies, and there's plenty of cover to use too. Distance also lessens their attack's effect.
And yes, you can aim. You just gotta work harder to get your sights on her.

That's the whole point, and just shows how easily modern games let off their players.
Just like in original Doom games, you can get more than half of your entire arsenal within the first couple maps.
