When will games outgrow their simplistic morality systems?
>>
>>379023606
Ambiguous morality doesn't have a place in settings where "good" and "evil" have definitive meanings and forces behind them.

So are you saying there will never be a Legend of the Galactic Heroes of vidya?

Fpbp. When good and evil are tangible entities neutrality serves only as a detriment to everyone.

When will games outgrow having standard gameplay revolve around murder?
>>
>>379024780
But Yang was clearly evil, reinhard was clearly good, and oberstein did nothing wrong
>>
>>379024807
Dishonored heavily encourages you not to kill people. Pretty sure the original Dues Ex had no-kill options.
>>
>>379024807
>Murder
>Not the objective best human competition
Not even trying to be edgy but literally everyones problems would be solved if you could actually kill eachoher over our opinions.

Don't want to stand by your opinion to the death? Don't have it. There's less pussies that way, less retards as they get killed off, and politics wouldnt be run by rich old white people

What did Tolkien mean by this?
>>
>>379023840
Sure, but you don't need to make a game where there are absolute "good" and "evil" forces at place.
>>
>>379025112
Damn son, I'm glad you're not the emperor of the world.

That the men who stand atop the wall of Minas Tirith come from all walks of life stand ready, to give their lives if necessary, to purge Middle Earth of the literal mudslime Uruk hai
>>
>>379025157
I mean it's the truth. Uruks likely had healers of some kind, and somebody has gotta build those siege towers and catapults.
>>
>>379023606
that sounds like work, op

games are already hard enough to make
>>

ONE THING
I DON'T KNOW WHY
>>
>>379025289
Moral grey areas don't make works of fiction inherently good, just as they don't inherently add depth to characters.
>>
>>379025292
>>379025298
t. Weaklings who couldn't kill if they even wanted to.

You only don't want it because you know you would die.

If I was an emperor, I would make it so that in order to become the emperor, you would have to defeat the emperor in a fight to the death, and if the emperor died of old age, then a tournament would be hosted for the victor to become emperor.

It is literally the best form of government

That orcs are actually pretty smart and that he never forgave himself for not getting that across as well as he wanted in the book because he never wanted them to just be "the evil army".

>>379025448
Sure they don't, but it's an angle that hasn't been explored very well in games, and when done right can add much more depth to the choices you're making than "good option or bad option".
Honestly, I would much rather just have a series of reputation bars that increase or decrease as you take certain actions.

You would reign for a grand total of four minutes and thirteen seconds before being splattered on the ground like a fine paste.
Your successor would then instantly renounce that order without a second thought.

Okay, son. Calm down. It's just an imageboard.

The goblins designed all the siege weapons, with the help of Saruman by adapting their mining equipment. Traditionally, Orcs move in and kill the goblins and once the food source is expired they move on to other areas.

A setting where spiritual concepts and shit have physical embodiments is trash tier. Warcraft went down that road and is nothing but shittier for it.
>old warcraft
>scarlets use the light to torture and murder tons of people and end up working for demons without knowing it
>forsaken start a church of shadow because they think it's funny to make fun of the human church of light
>neither one is objectively good or bad

>nu-warcraft
>all evil light users have been wiped out
>there are giant light and shadow monsters running around with generic bland black and white alignment shit
>light is objectively good and shadow is objectively bad, even if you use shadow for good things it's actually void lord/old god juice which makes you insane

Not quite. Naaru are super fucking sketchy in Legion and Shadow Priests are literally being helped by an Old God.

Enlightened Meritocratic Democracy is the best form of Government. Debate me, mother fuckers.
>>
Whyy would any strong person take a rich old white persons money to protect them when they could seize power AND those weak rich peoples money themselves?
>>
>>379026482
>might does not make right, you know
You're right. Historically all they did was win massive military campaigns, create kingdoms and empires, and ensure their people's bloodlines would continue throughout history. They didn't have transgender bathrooms so I guess that's all for naught.

So?

>>379027123
So they don't deserve to run the government because they are pussies, dumbass. If you're going to kill someone, don't pussyfoot around, do it yourself.

>If you're going to kill someone, don't pussyfoot around, do it yourself.

Why?
>>
>>379026670
>>379026835
Do you guys have any idea how actual countries and empires were run in ye olden days? It's not like it was one guy sitting on a throne somewhere who made it all just work, magically.

For your average bloke it was pretty hard climbing that social ladder. Let alone get any actual influence. Sure, autocracies might work pretty well for a guy or two but eventually you're going to get a bad egg on the throne and usually that leads to internal strife, conflicts and stagnation.

And of conquests and similar are terribly romanticized, IMO. They're fun reads but probably weren't much fun for anyone at the time.

History been fucked since broad democracy became the 'good' government.
>>379027103
No, if anything the violence perpetuated by those governments has done nothing but hinder modern living.
>>379027206
Brute force only perpetuates brute force in response. Violence is counterintuitive to society. Humanity is already doomed.
>>
>>379027103
And if they hadn't it would have led to something else.

Just because the past is important doesn't make it some sacred object to deify. The world has been getting objectively safer and better for the majority of humanity, though you wouldn't know of it since now with a flick of the middle finger you can find out how many kids died last month in Somalia or some shit when just 50 years ago that kind of news would take months to be compiled and reach America, if it ever did at all. Don't mistake the surge of news, with most of it being bad (because that's what sells) as being indicative of a surge in actual danger or humanity's downturn.
