Why is cyberpunk such a criminally underused setting?
>>379013216
Reposted from last cyberpunk thread
Japan, in 10 year, will be a vastly different country than today.
It's a black spot in a white shirt basically.
It's.. a clean country, with respectful and disciplined people, respect is expected in all circumstance, and the culture is very open.
But this is going to disappears. They will have to open their immigration if they want to survive, and you'll have all the weeaboos and shitter from USA/Middle east/Europe that's going to shit on their culture.
The "weird" but "cool" Japan as we know will last 10,20 more year before eventually becoming like every other country.
Could've prevented this.
Bump for exposure

Reminder that there hasn't been a single good anime released since the late 2000s.
Press F to pay respects.

Why didn't you post this thread again with some Bubblegum Crisis?
>>379013216
Breath of Five V always gave me a heavy FFVII influence in terms of atmosphere and world, it was great
.
>>379013216
Plain truth, it's just not that popular. Even more so if you go by traditional "old school" western cyberpunk, and not freewheeling "anime" cyberpunk.
More people are interested in the generic fantasy settings where a MANLY MAN OF MEANS or a redhead in bikini armor can make a self-insert legend out of themselves(or at least an unforgettable pity-me-elfmo experience) across the lands, than a dystopian urban sprawl where your accomplishments are at best whispered among the right circles, with all hints of true fame supressed by the megacorps.

because reality is boring

This kills me.
Every single 2D/3D game from this era could have a full HD port now. Crisp, clean backgrounds.
You know, there's only one game they saved the 3D assets for. Fucking Resident Evil 0. Oh WOW.
They could even go the extra mile and make them fully 3D, in real time, or have new camera or control modes. Imagine playing RE2 with the original graphics, in HD, with RE4 style aiming.
Deus Ex did it perfectly so there is no reason for anyone else to try

That still sounds cool as hell though.

It became contemporary fiction.

All of that is wrong. Have you ever actually lived in Japan?
Japan is a culture of extreme passive-aggression and xenophobia. If you do something even slightly different (not wrong, but different. Walk the wrong way, wear the wrong colors) people will bitch to your manager, your landlord and anyone in ear shot. The culture in Japan is so xenophobic that they hate themselves as even native-born Japanese are viewed as not being 'Pure' (see: Ainu).
There is very little respect towards peoples lives and work/life balance. You will work 80 hours a week for a shitty wage, never to see your family until the day you die. Their idea of 'respect' is never leaving work before your boss, even if it means leaving work at 10pm after arriving at 8. And you want to know why most people kill themselves? Because depression 'doesn't exist' in Japan. If you're sad and you show it or express it, you're ignored.
The only people that think Japan is a perfect place with an open culture are the people that have never lived there. Ironically, those same people that glorify Japanese culture are the same faggots that become annoying immigrants that they hate.
I want a full on cyberpunk detective game. Deus Ex has the tone and style down but the detective work is just part of a linear story, instead of an actual game mechanic

This
You want cyberpunk op? Just wait a few years and go out to any big city.

>7 is more steam than cyber
There's no fucking steam engines in the whole thing you moron.
Go neck yourself.
Because we realized that Japanese businesses aren't going to take over the world.
cyberpunk is the setting i avoid across all media forms. literally worst traits of noir for /r/futurism crowd.

>They will have to open their immigration if they want to survive
Literally not true at all. There is nothing wrong with a declining birth rate. There are still just under 1 million births per year.
Even so the Japanese would happily fade into history than import foreigners to taint their culture and bloodline. Your faggot weeaboo dreams will never be lived out. They will never want you there.
>t. seasoned traveler with many trips to Japan and many friends in the country who openly share their beliefs about foreigners and the problems they tend to bring with them
>>379015171
>have new camera or control modes
totally ruined the game.
this is why assfaggots shouldn't have a saying in vidya,
and devs shouldn't listen to any of these assfaggots.
because all they know to do is how to ruin a game
>>379019943
>There is nothing wrong with a declining birth rate.
Declining economy comes with it retard. And then the old can't be supported because there's too few young people to pay into the system. Social Security doesn't run via magic.
>>379015012
Basically, cyberpunk is too close to reality to satisfy escapism.
>>379013216
I honestly wish the whole game took place in Midgar.
>>379013216
Hey, were you in last night's FF thread?
>>379014530
Just like remake them bro
>>379014698
We don't talk about that game...
>>379020350
Well, we're in a cyberpunk thread, right? Isn't that what the robots are supposed to do? Not as many humans but still a viable work force.
FF7 is more like industrialpunk
>>379020716
>Hey, were you in last night's FF thread?
Nope. Did someone post that image? I made it. I just took some images from google image search.
>>379021632
Yeah, someone did. That was a fucking good thread.
cyberpunk is dead because we're living in the dystopia it predicted, but instead of being cool it's lame and boring. in the 80s people thought the future would be people in mirrored sunglasses fighting megacorps with cool cyber shit. instead we have people in fake nerd glasses willingly giving their personal information to facebook using their iphones.
>>379020350
Pretty much this.
It's either become Canada 2.0 or die at this point.
