What's the native resolution of the N64?
depends on the game
most were 320x240
it was possible to go 640x480 but very few games actually did that
Who gives a fuck? It was played on 4:3 screens, which is all that's relevant and something Nintendo were well aware of.
>>379012140
some games actually supported 16:9
>>379012107
I know that some games could have a 640x480 res without the expansion pak (like virtual pool 64), but i was curious about the other res, i thought a bit higher than 320x240, or maybe lower.

Some games also had fake widescreen (like dk64)

Nintendo was ultra low res for the longest time
even the GBA was 240×160 of all things, even less than the SNES (and it got a lots of snes ports). DS was 256×192
helped that most things were rendered in a simplistic manner, otherwise it'd have looked like hot garbage

What is this face trying to convey?
>>379012107
Would you say that 320x240 was one half resolution?

sadness that bangs will never look that good and puffed up again

What did he mean by this?

I can't say much about the gba since I got a micro and the games didn't look awful to me (atleast the ones I played).
But the I remember always disliking the DS resolution (more now with the desmume/drastic enhancements).
The 3ds also looks like garbage.

Oh shit, thanks anon, I didn't expect an actual answer.

1/4th of the resolution, yes.

It literally means nothing. It's what you draw when you want to give nothing a face.
I have both PJ64 and BizHawk.
I like playing games with PJ64 at 1366x768 and maybe (just maybe) some of those filters like bloom or brz.
BizHawk gives me a nostalgic feel by setting low res and seeing the blurry mess with game slowdowns (specially for dk64, bless orange boosting/clipping) and also doesn't crash/hangs as much as pj64.
I still have my n64 hooked up, seriously thinking about getting a flashcart.

it's a side-effect of trying to add more details
you need to keep it very basic to look right at low res, N64 typically used uniform colors with barely any textures on its 3D stuff
GBA mostly had simple 2D stuff much like the SNES, so it wasn't so bad
