I bought Pirates Curse on DS and Half Genie Hero on Xbone. I like them both but I'm not sure which one I like better, they're both surprisingly different.

Played the last three. Pirate's curse was fun because of the quick paced gameplay, but the ones with the transformations are so slow. Approach obstacle, stop, transform, pass obstacle, transform again because all the forms except for the monkey is fucking slow shit, approach new obstacle, repeat

First one was decent for what it was, but the rest are painfully mediocre and have no lasting appeal whatsoever. They are shallow, simplistic, easy, repetitive, and simply functional. No different from random steam indie game 224 aside from the first two being on nintendo platforms. Wayforwards other games are better. People only like it because of their inexperience with the genre and the biker-appeal, which is fine I suppose. Derivitive stuff only becomes bad once it gets old, so it doesn't mean the people who like it are wrong to like it.

The quality really dropped off during the race level. The last boss was a big joke, too.

Why does /v/ like Pirate Curse so much? It was my first Shantae game, and I went in expecting Shovel Knight-tier gameplay but for the SNES/Genesis era but instead got a meh Metroidvania with shitty "lol pixels we're so indie XD" animating sprites and tit-filled drawn avatars.

Nothing surprised or impressed me at all. I was legitimately disappointed in that game.
