I remember being a Sonicfag at a the time and trying to justify to myself that this and the Werehog could work as long as the gameplay is good, and people need to give it a chance.

Sonic Unleashed was alright, but the Werehog was just a generic GoW clone. Black Knight was forgotten, but it was more playable than Secret of the Rings.

It's a character placed in another universe for the sake of a spin off, what's the problem ?

Underrated game. Best story of any Sonic game, better music than most of the games in a series with stellar music, pretty good plot twist with a good moral, suddenly unlocks 3 characters and weapon crafting after what seems like the original end of the game.

If it got a port that replaced Wagglan sword combat with normal controls it'd be a solid 8/10 game.

Really stretching it there. The Riders games (sans the shitty Kinect one) were fun, and it's cool that they started to make appearances in the Olympic games, but Jet even made it clear himself that he has no interests in either dominating the world or saving it.

The levels borrowed so many assets from one another (The Doom/Lost Colon-/Westopolis/Central City-Glyphic Canyon/Sky Troops) that it wouldn't have been that different from Sonic Heroes "Two acts of the same theme and then a boss" structure.

That's pretty much what the game's "Expert Mode" did.

Final Story heavily implies that all routes are canon, just not the endings.

Dialog from Shadow's talk with the GUN commander is played in Shadow's thoughts, Eggman brings up lying about saying he made Shadow, the president is at the GUN base, Shadow is on the black comet by the time he gets the last chaos emerald.

In expert mode Cream thanks Shadow for saving her, and the GUN commander apologies for how he acted.

The real events are unseen, but this implies that Shadow pretty much did all routes and learned all info from them, just he isn't under the player's control, in which we made him follow just run route, and get one possible ending that that route would have taken him too.

I will defend this, since I replayed Shadow's game not to long ago, the ranking system of the game takes that into account, it was pretty far to me and gave me As when I really should get them.

Keep in mind that, unlike any other game, Shadow drops only 10 Rings when he takes a hit. You'll almost always make it to the Goal Rings with 100+ rings, which adds to your score as well.

This game is just mediocre as fuck. Great soundtrack though.
I haven't really played much of Secret Rings but the controls seem shittier.
