Who is the best Kiseki girl and why is it Erika Russell?

Also, a basic translation of Zero has been made available. It's not machine translation bad but it's still pretty rough.

What's so bad about them? As far as it's known about Vander and pink hair what's her face is some guy that doesn't know what to do with his life because his designated job has gone to shit and a fangirl Lloyd wannabe.

I'll be lucky if I even get to Zero by the time Sen III releases. I finished The Third not too long ago, but I've been putting on Zero and Ao because I don't want to take two months to finish them.

>TFW the Zero TL project guys are now feeling a little bummed out from this rough translation getting released so they may take a break on making the translation look more proper

They had a discord channel set up for answering stuff about the project, and now that they caught air of it people started commenting on how "it's not that bad, not great, but good enough" and the most touchy of them goes "good enough feels like it's spitting on our efforts". I kind of get it, but at the same time it feels stupid

Good luck with that. Maybe if it was two years of self-study or one of the rare good classes. If you have the drive for it though, sure.

There's no need to be a dick about it.
>>
>>378995431
It's a rough one from back in 2015-2016, but it has all NPC and main story translated it seems. It's above machine translation for sure, but still awkward.

The e-celebs of the English speaking falcom fanbase are kinda drama queens, huh? Both Hatsuu and omgfloofy seem to have really thin skin. Gu4n is the only one I haven't seen spazzing out on a regular basis.

Gu4n was actually pretty chill about it, and said he was happy it was leaked so now people can draw a comparison between the rough one and theirs when it's finished.

Some people are touchy about things like that. I know a lot of people in scanlation for example who can not stand getting sniped, even if it's by someone who did a shit job. Others couldn't give a shit less if they tried and keep on trucking.

In hindsight, as cool as it is, names with funky accents on them are indirect indicators of characters who'll be party members later on, because those were taken from the display names on their status screens whereas I'm pretty sure other characters don't have official romanizations like that
Not that there are more than one, maybe two, cases where you wouldn't already expect it, but it feels a lot like old JRPGs where potential party members would have their names in ALLCAPS even if they don't join until right at the end
if anything, it's pretty adorable

Don't know what you'll think about it, but I liked it. It's a slow burn and I just enjoyed traveling the country and solving local issues while wondering what the fuck was up with Joshua's past (no spoilers, you find out he has a mysterious past within the first couple minutes of the game) and what the hell Cassius was up to until shit started taking off toward the end. But as someone else said, it's really just a prologue for SC.

Say what you will about the Zero translation team but they had basically zero proof of concept.

As far as most people could tell, there was no sign of any progress being made. So no, they don't owe the community anything, but they really didn't do anything to warrant people defending them either.

Get into it if you really like worldbuilding and character development, because it's the king of those things

Inevitable Struggle never got the vocal arrangement it so deserved, just a run-of-the-mill Jindo violin J-rock thing. I really enjoy the FM-synth version by Kamikura: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0IN0pTvagYA

That and Silver Will get so much hype because of their top-tier melodies which other great tracks don't quite excel at. But they're all great anyway, especially OHB, Intense Chase, Concentrate All Firepower, etc.

>>378998535
>C&Ds
Why do that when you can just license the fan translation? XSEED literally just did this for Zwei: The Ilvard Insurrection.

>>378998773
Silver Will really needs more creative remixes. All trance rock, all the time, gets stale, and it's sad how even We Love Sora no Kiseki has to have another generic version of the track which isn't even orchestral like the rest of the album.

Zwei!! 2, of course. Gurumin is the real Zwei!! 2 given the similarities in development goals, game structure, goofiness, and eating consumables to upgrade. They're all tied together in some way, just not story or world (except for "Zwei!! II" taking place in Granvallen like the first game). And Tokyo Xanadu could be called a Zwei!! 5 of sorts.

I guess Nayuta's a Kiseki spinoff, but really it could have just been Nayuta's Travels or some other title. Tokyo Xanadu also isn't a Xanadu game but it uses that branding for prestige (which was a mistake, Kondo admitted in a Dengeki interview).

This is the fucked up attitude that made me learn Japanese, its not "fun", its not "good", and its not appropriate for a localization company to change the original work to jerk off their own egos at how cool they think they are. Localization is cancer, translation is acceptable but experiencing a thing in its original language is ultimately the only way to experience a thing with any integrity.

Trails' chests are one of the few moments of liberal localisation I can forgive, since there was nothing in the original and you can easily ignore it by just not checking them. >>379004680
Tokyo Xanadu got good review scores, but I don't know about reception from Japanese Falcom fans. They knew ahead of time how the game's largely recycling tropes and assets from Sen (II), and the eX+ version makes it much more fun to play because of a new difficulty mode, but it's largely a Persona-lite in more ways than Sen. Also, Falcom looks at comments from Taiwanese and South Korean players more often these days, and I have no clue where to look for online fanbases in those countries.

As long as Toxanadu hoards the worst, most overly pandering tropes popular in Japan right now, Falcom can get Kiseki back into fighting form just like they've done (for the most part) with Ys VIII.

>>
>>379006862
So then you should be able to provide me with a lot of translators who do things literally then, why don't you go ahead and do that? You have yet to name a single one. Well, besides Zeromonkey, but his translation ended up shit so it doesn't really support your argument, unless you're going to argue that the shit Zero patch is good.
>>
>>379006589
It helps that the cast of Zero is mainly the 4 of them, so they can give them good characterization much more easily. There are other playable ones later, but mostly it's the 4 of them.
>>
>>379006969
I wish I could, but as already mentioned earlier, the vast majority of translations made these days are far on the liberal side. And the obvious reason for that is that it's easy. It's much easier to sloppily change things and make quick approximations rather than to painstakingly go over the entire script ensuring that you're catching every possible nuance and reference and ensuring that you're conveying them in an appropriate manner in the translation.
>>
>>379007057
Ao has 6 but by then,, all of them have been established that it works.
>>
>>379006862

I'm not that other guy, but I am a translator. Been doing licensed translations for a few years, so I'm not a vet, but I'm not absolutely new. Naturally, associate with other translators too. While we all have our own styles, some are more liberal than others, not everyone agrees on honorifics etc, no one supports completely literal translations like some people who can't even read Japanese do. At the very least people are like me, they try to stay as faithful as they can, but make any necessary changes, because changes must be made. Some are liberal as hell which I don't agree with, but I don't know any literal translators who work in pro translations.
>>
>>379007196
So you say it's the better translation, but the only examples of that style of translation in existence are shitty fan patches and stuff like the Gagharv trilogy. On top of that, the one example you provided actually contradicted you. You're not really proving anything to anyone.

>At the very least people are like me, they try to stay as faithful as they can, but make any necessary changes, because changes must be made.
No one is arguing that this is a bad thing. I agree that this is the best method. The disagreement here is that it's being claimed that what you're doing is not a literal translation, because the people pushing for liberal bullshit translations want to paint anything more faithful in a negative light.
>>
>>379007196
It is much easier to change and approximate things, not already mentioned. Most of the translation is on the side of today's liberalism. You are going to the whole script, which is difficult to guarantee that it takes all possible nuances and references and conveys them in the proper way in translation.
>>
>>379007424
>No one is arguing that this is a bad thing. I agree that this is the best method. The disagreement here is that it's being claimed that what you're doing is not a literal translation

Literal:

Liberal:

>Boy: I hear ya. I never want to see a broom again. But now it's time for the best part: Dinner!
>Girl: Hehehe, dinner tastes better after a hard day's work, doesn't it?

Not the literal translation anon, but i'm curious about the opinion of people on this one. If there's a character who talks about themselves in third person, do you think they should keep it that way in English or does it looks too awkward?
>>
>>379008378
Nice non-argument.
>>
>>379008440
It depends on the character. Xseed's reasoning for changing the way Renne speaks by limiting her 3rd person references to when she talks about her past is fitting, since she would sound like an idiot speaking like that in English, and it provides a good hint towards her split personalities.
>>
>>379008440
They should keep it that way, of course. People always only argue that "it's awkward in English" as the reason to change it, because they're mistakenly under the impression that it's not considered equally awkward and weird in Japanese.
>>
>>379008523
If you are seriously saying that Japanese words should be left in a translation then you have no leg to stand on.
>>
>>379008378

I wonder how honorifics became standard in fan translations? Maybe it's due to inexperience and laziness. I used to use them because I was too lazy to try to work around not having them, but that was years ago. I gave them up because I knew it was lazy. Only use them now if I'm told to by clients. They're even starting to show up in official translations now though. Not very much, but more than they used to.
>>
>>379008569
It's not that it's awkward, it's that it's something that's done on and off in Japanese, but it is never done in English. Whenever someone speaks about themselves in third person in English, it makes the character come off as stupid. That doesn't mean it should always be changed; if the character in question is an idiot, it would make sense to leave it alone.
>>
>>379008596
Not all words are translatable. Why do you think that the English language is full of loan words in the first place? How about, you know, karaoke?
Obviously the amount of origin words retained should be minimised, but there is nothing wrong with keeping in words without any appropriate translations, and honorifics are the prime example of that. God forbid people might actually learn something about another culture when experiencing a piece of media.
>>
>>379008610
It's just laziness. Proper translation of honorifics, knowing when to replace them with English words or when to leave them out entirely and alter the tone of the sentence to fit the honorific is difficult and time-consuming. It's much easier to just leave them in and pretend that leaving words untranslated is "faithful".

>Yeah, there sure are a lot of honorific loan words in English. Oh wait, there aren't, the only loan words are for things invented/popularized by people of other languages.
Of course we don't use Japanese honorifics in English you retard, that wasn't the argument. Japan has honorifics for concepts that don't exist in our western society and the English language, like senpai/kouhai as a general term for anyone in a position senior or junior to you in any field. No one in the west goes around referring to their more experienced coworker as John-senior or even just Senior. Kun, chan, tan, bo, shi, none of these have English equivalences or even approximations, despite being incredibly common forms of address in Japan. Mr/Mrs is the most common equivalent we have for san, but everyone always agrees that it's fucking retarded to have classmates referring to each other like that. And don't even get me started on localisations changing name order.

You cannot adequately convey the Japanese system of address in translation, it simply cannot be done. No matter how hard you try, if you remove it, you will be removing the nuance of character interactions related to it. And as already mentioned, forms of address themselves frequently come up in conversations in Japanese media too, which are only muddled further by honorifics.

Another example is in Azazel-san. Azazel and Beelzebub meet for the first time since school, and Beel refers to Azazel as Azazel-kun. This was a simple and informal form of address for them in school, but as they're now working together, it was disrespectful to Azazel who is in a senior position, and he gets pissed at Beel for it. Later, Beel proves to be more useful than Azazel at work and accomplishes more than him, at which point Beel then refers to Azazel as Azazel-kun again, this time stressing the honorific to intentionally insult him. How can you convey this in English if you remove the honorifics? You can't.

>>
>>379010163
How was that an insult? You just said there's no way to translate honorifics even though there are plenty of ways. I just stated a fact.
>>
>>379010224
If you had a counter-argument you'd provide one, instead of saying that my first language isn't my first language.
Do you know that French has a term for the feeling of wanting to jump off a cliff if you're at the top of it, even if you're not suicidal or depressed at all? English doesn't. This is a fucking obvious concept to anyone except you liberal fucktards: different languages have different concepts that do not always have equivalences in other languages. Sometimes you need to retain a term and explain the concept to convey the information held in it, rather than simply replacing it with an inadequate approximation, like "Mr" is for "-san".
>>
>>379009625
Of course that stuff was happening, not to forget the crazy scheme in Ruan. But the very idea of being able to reverse Orbal power itself shakes a core idea of Trails FC, that the world as the cast knows it is undergoing a technological and social revolution which will seemingly continue unchallenged. What better way to show them how things just aren't that simple? The Zeiss blackout is the most impacting tone shift in FC because of this.

Come on, that's not even remotely comparable to Hideo's laundry list of 13 different forms of address ranging from archaic to downright obscure.
Never mind that the translation there completely fails to convey that -chama is a baby talk form of -sama, so "dear sister" isn't a fitting translation at all.

Do NPCs have two unique lines of dialogue in Zero like in Sky? I've talked to NPCs and they seem only have one unique thing.
>>
>>379013582
Too late for that but it really didn't affect my enjoyment of CS2, if anything I am more excited to play the Crossbell games. In CS 1 and 2 you kept hearing how shit is hitting the fan in Crossbell, it is going to be nice to finally see what is going on.
>>
>>379014036
Crossbell and Coldsteel happen at the same time. You can play them in any order, as long as you play the Sky series first to have a foundation for the lore.
>>
Six hours in right now and I can say with confidence zero is one of the easiest games in the series, if not the easiest. Not even Cold Steel gives you a free group attack that wipes out everything in one go in virtually every random battle so long as you make sure you stun them before going into it. Even the "hard" fight one-on-one against that gang leader was winnable with only attack 1 installed and only 2 healing items in my inventory.

Not that I'm complaining, since I don't really care about difficulty, but it's pretty impressive how easy this game is.
>>
>>379013918
It's probably because the city is so goddamn big and there usually no boundaries on where to go that most NPCs won't have double dialogue i'd guess.

>>
>>379015537
You can play with either, there's nothing bad about the gamepad controls. The only odd thing is that the cancel button also brings up your camp screen, which takes some getting used to.
>>
>>379016262
Check again after you made some progress, and yes the crossbell games have the biggest script of any rpg, higher than that is all VNs i think.
>>
>>379016776
SC's prologue was retarded and ONLY because of spear Jaeger who was overly hard for something that was supposed to be in the prologue, and only having two party members.
>>
>>379015537

>>
>Laura
>Noble Confidant
How can you confide in someone who barely knows anything besides swords and training?
>>
>>379017058
Yeah, so? If the game hasn't shown any indication of challenge in a full six hours of gameplay, it probably isn't going to get any better.
>>
>>379017276
FC also didn't show anything particularly tough in the first few hours anon, and so do most RPGs. Just because they didn't have an unbalanced enemy right at the start of the game like in SC, doesn't mean it won't. Besides, everything after that in SC was cakewalk aside from maybe Loewe and the fight against Renne in the tower.
>>
>>379017646
>FC also didn't show anything particularly tough in the first few hours anon
It didn't have anything particularly tough in the rest of the game either.

Or it could just be a more difficult game from the start that stays more difficult throughout, like SMT.
