While it's hard to say BotW is a better game than ALttP, it does a lot of things differently, and not necessarily worse. There's a much bigger world and shit ton to explore, who cares if you don't have linear dungeons with simple puzzles? That's an awful complaint when there's so much more.

The old get item to solve puzzles and to kill the boss meme was long overdue for death. No idea why that shit was regurgitated for so long. Zelda 1's dungeons should have been the standard instead.

Because Nintendo was just kind of stagnating with no competition. Star Fox Adventures, Okami, Darksiders, Hype the Time Quest, that's about it for Zelda-esque games from other developers. It took them this long to reevaluate and bring the series back to its exploration roots.

same, everything was great in BotW except the dungeons. I completed them all in about 15 mins each and neither of the bosses or ganon gave me any problem. Same for the shrines apart from the motion controls.
I would like the shrines to be harder, but I also want traditional, large, puzzle dungeons too.

The sense of adventure was pretty good, turn off the map and just look at things in the distance and then go to them. But it was all kind of shallow when you actually got to said place. 99% of the time it was either something enclosing a shrine, an orb puzzle that brought up a shrine, or literally nothing like the big Colosseum. There was not enough variation in BOTW. There needed to be more one time events, more weapons you find that you only get once.

Still pretty good tho

Being able to do them in any order killed them in botw. I don't want to see anything like runes again; at least not getting them all from the start.

The dungeons need to build upon one another making you use all the items/runes to solve by the end, also the way moving the divine beast added an unique, not repeated element to the puzzles of each could stay. They need more combat as while.

A better variety and maybe some more permanent weapons would have been good.
Possibly making the champion weapons permanent.

BotW was close to being a godsend, which is why the lack of explorable atmospheric structures (like the tower of hera shown in teh LttpP art) fucking pains me so much.

How hard could it have been for Nintendo to make some dungeons like Hyrule Caste inside places like say, the serpent's jaw in the jungle or in the ruins before Mt Lanayru? They would not only serve to give us some cool treasure/items but also provide some incredible atmosphere and gameplay that can only be found inside such places.

This would have elevated the game from the 8/10 that it is to at least a 9/10 and I'm still baffled by Nintendo's decision to not have such an easy to think of design choice in the game. I say this as someone who doesn't believe in perfect games.

I agree. Seeing the same shitty 15 minute dungeon 4 times in a row knocked a point or two off the game for me. They could have easily knocked out a quarter of the shrines and put those puzzles into actual dungeons. The champions also needed more exposition. It was kind of hard to care for them when all we got was like 2 cutscenes and a few textboxes detailing our prior relationship with them.

Listen, BOTW is a great game. One of the best in years. Having said that, it's releasing in a year with a lot of top tier competition, and the only reason it's fanbase is trying to hard to meme it to GOTY status is because it's the one thing justifying their Switch purchase. As long as one conveniently forgets it also came out on the Wii-U.

Persona 5 and Nier have already topped it, and RDR2, Destiny 2, SMOdyssey, and Fractured but Whole have yet to release.

Well for starters, the game starts out reasonably difficult and gets way too easy way too fast.

Once you have Mipha's and Revali's gale they both pretty much take a dump on the combat being difficult and the exploration.

I don't know about you, but my first champion power was 12 hours into the game, and by then, I'd already fought 2 lynels, 3 hinoxes, and a stalnox.

Plus, you can disable them. Not like Mipha's Grace stops you from getting bullied by the stronger enemies in the game. What you really need is upgraded armor.

Which is why I didn't upgrade my armor past t2, and didn't get max hearts. I was still getting 2/3 shot by guardians and lynels.
