Is Animal Crossing and Mario really enough for Nintendo users? I get that Zelda might hold the system afloat for a while but AC and Mario?

I'd like to see SMT (mainline or spinoff) or a completely new RPG. 2D Metroid or a new 3D series with new gameplay. A new Advance Wars and F-Zero would be nice too.

I don't expect all that to happen but I expect variety from Nintendo instead of churning out shovelware like Arms or tenth billion Mario title.

OP here, I've owned every Sony console except the PS4 (waiting for a price drop on the Pro), I'm just calling it like I see it. They announce cool looking games, but most of them are so far down the line that they're irrelevant to that year's E3. I'm burnt out on, "Check out this sweet game! It comes out in 5 years, maybe."

I've been going to E3 since like 2012 and will be going this year. I like Nintendo but for E3 they are always the worst in my book. Objectively, they always have the least amount of games and at the same time they always have the longest fucking lines.

Last year they only had one game: Breath of the Wild. And they had as much show floor space as Sony and Microsoft (who had a bunch of games, bunch of indie games, VR experiences, a fucking car...). And the line to try out zelda I was told was like 6 hours. That's like the entire fucking day at E3 wasted to try out the new zelda that they've already shown. It was the longest fucking line there.

Their popularity is like 70% "nintendo can do no wrong" mentality and 20% parents buying nintendos for their kids. 10% are people who see things like Splatoon and think "hey they're doing something different for once" only to be disappointed that their originality is short-lived. And people who buy their portable consoles.

I'm an idort and have been since 5th gen (been playing games since 4th gen though), and it's honest to god one of my top 5 games of all time, and squeezed past WW as my favorite Zelda.

I like to compare BOTW to kimi no na wa actually. For most people it just clicks perfectly, and they end up loving the shit out of it. For the rest, it doesn't click as well, and seeing the praise it's getting frustrates them so they think less of it.

So there has been alot of rumors with them partnering with SEGA, which would be amazing. (for PC and Xbox)

They are also ditching Halo and Gears this year to focus on other IPs so im excited to see what they fill those slots with. Please keep KI alive in some way.

Project Scorpio means more developers get to use highend shit and overall better stuff for PC gamers as well.

Overall im hoping Microsoft pulls out alot of surprises, they have wonderful IPs that lay dormant and in the right hands could be amazing.

I also have a theory that TLoU's PS3 launch and hype probably brought in a lot of casual players onto the PS bandwagon, which coincidentally was right away the time Sony changed their marketting from "The most hardcore dedicated gaming console" to "For the players, anyone can enjoy this system."

With BOTW, it just felt like wasted potential. They had this big open world and a neat climbing mechanic that lets you go anywhere, but after a while you realize that all there is to see are monster camps that might give you some arrows or a shrine. Nintendo have impossible ground to catch up on Sony, if they can at all. But they are having a good year so far. Denying that is immature. Sony has a lot to show this year, and plenty of potential big name titles that could really rock the boat if they were released for the holidays. (Last of Us II and God of War especially), but they have a massive problem of showing games way too early on to get press every year, rather than just pulling a 2016 Nintendo and going slow one year to say that they are working on other long-term projects, rather than promising games that aren't out until 2020 (FF7R, KH3)

Retro has been working on something, plus there's other studios like the guys that worked on Luigi's Mansion. I think Nintendo will announce more games than people think. They wouldn't keep saying they have a big E3 and not deliver on Switch launch year of all things.
