Why would I possibly want to? And you're still making a generous assumption here. I could get a USED smartphone without a sim card for lower prices, but the problem with smartphones is that the OS eventually doesn't get updated anymore, and rooting can introduce its own problems. Those 'lower prices' mentioned before also still aren't all that cheap if you want a phone that can even run said apps.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying people shouldn't buy smartphones. They're just not for everyone. The fact Nintendo is pretty much requiring you to have one to use their voice chat is a joke.

It's a very crappy solution to the dilemma of using headset and headphones at the same time.
The original idea was to just use the celphone for hte voicechat and the television speakers for game audio, and it will most likely do exactly that.

But then someone was reminded that the switch have a very popular portable mode, and several use headphones while in this mode, AND the switch can't into headsets by the port.
