What are the best games like the Mount and Blade series that

Can I play an individual dude in Starsector or do I have to play a ship? I'll try it but I prefer being able to make a character.

I've heard Veil of Crows (Early Access) is good.

I had fun playing Starsector. People describe it as Mount and Blade in space.

I actually have too. What I really like is how if your faction dies, the game world stays the same and you have to try again with everything remaining how you left it in your last campaign. I hope it gets modding support though. I'd love to have a fantasy version of the same concept.

Technically you're playing a character that can switch ships at will but effectively it feels like you're playing a ship.
Compared to Warband Starsector still isn't as fleshed out as I'd like it to be sans the combat part. It's still lacking in the actual role-playing department.

I agree, but Starsector is a good game to sink >20 hours into. It gets kind of grindish when you get the best ships and weapons (kind of like Mount and Blade when you get a strong army) but it's still fun!
