TF2 is not dead will likely never die within your lifetime. Super Monday Night Combat is borderline-dead, but you can still easily find matches thanks to the game being free with a tiny community. Once you can't find a single match in TF2 is it fair to call it dead.

I tell you a secret. The match making is rigged. This means that in 90 % of all games you can't win (you can only win if you are an aim botter or a neet with autism).

Play the hero you want because it doesn't matter and you will have a 50/50 win/lose rate. This is for quick play. I don't know how ranked is.

I have even tested qp with my worst heroes and played like shit and even then I had half wins and half loses.

The way Blizzdrones act is really quite fascinating in how they will rabidly defend anything the company does, despite their own actions making it clear that they don't like it. I have 2 massive blizzdrone friends who defend OW and HotS to the death; indeed, HotS has apparently saved the moba genre. Yet neither of them play it. They'll link what few tournaments there are, talk about updates to their game, videos etc, but they don't fucking touch the game themselves and in fact hardly ever played it.
OW is also clearly GOTY and a great mp experience.... except they play it once a week at most and have just gone back to playing other games.
It's just fucking weird. People use the term pcbros from time to time but I don't think I've ever met a single person who loves all of their games and will happily defend all of them. It mostly just seems the fans of Valve games have no overlap sometimes and it's only the weird TF2 faggots who will suck the company's cock.

That's like saying Spec Ops: The Line condones killing Arabs.
Besides, Blizzard has something like 4000 employees which makes consistency difficult. It's heavily derivative from TF2, which has a robot slaughter horde mode. And it has this event sitting around its lore and a playerbase growing rapidly bored of their shallow game.

Obviously some different artists and writers took up the job of making a game mode in Overwatch actually connected to the lore. That doesn't mean that the main game lore magically stops being disconnected from the main game.

This fallacy is ancient and still as stupid as ever. Overwatch literally has 480x (Four hundred and eighty times) more viewers. Let that number sink in and tell me that TF2 is the more popular game with a straight face. Twitch stats are one of the best metrics for the liveliness of a game and you being ass blasted doesn't change that.

TF2 will remain popular enough to always find games as long as Valve feels it should (until they decide to make TF3).
Overwatch will either go F2P within a few years or fade away as the next best thing comes around. They've REALLY fucked up by making it completely devoid of real overall character (as an IP), in favor of having all these meme 'homages' layered onto a deliberately generic background. I honestly think the most likely fate for it is that they turn around with an Overwatch 2 within a few years.
Paladins will stick around as long as the dev can keep their doors open, but most likely as a tiny enthusiast community.

That doesn't mean that TF2 doesn't have anyone playing it, and it doesn't mean that Overwatch will have this many people playing it forever.
Overwatch's shallowness will kill it before TF2, a game which is heavily modifiable, has an enormous amount of content and depth on offer, and has persisted for 10 years with no signs of stopping.

People don't watch it on Twitch because the sort of person who plays TF2 is not a numale that frequents Twitch streams.
