If I'm not mistaken, I believe there's evidence that SH2 takes place around the 2000's. If we're really, really stretching it, James would have to be 45. Not only does he look much younger but the instruction booklet states his age as 29. If he did go to Vietnam, he would be four years old at best.

Actually, I just went to check my copy of the game. I have the PS2 Greatest Hits version and everyone's age is listed as Unknown. Everyone's occupation is also Unknown, except for James' which is Protagonist. His "job" is to be the fucking main character.

Anyway, for some reason a random wiki states his age as 29. That seems about right anyway.
