I oftentimes see accusations that Samus has become a bimbo, that she's curvy rather than strong and muscular. This is false.
Curvy, which means plumpness or chub, is not what she is in Sm4sh. Why do people keep saying that?
Yes, she's "bigger" but that's due to muscles and not fat.
Look at pic related. Arms have visible muscle definition, thighs look strong and her ass is extremely bulky. Sure, her waist is super thin but maybe she just didn't focus her exercise on that area?
Bottom line is, Samus has a physically extremely strong body. Not like a bodybuilder, but it's athletic as hell. It's not curvy in the classic sense of the word.
Also, her lower body, thighs and ass, are especially bulky with muscle, which makes sense since she runs and jumps a lot.
Previous games showed Samus as a lot slimmer with a lot less muscle.
