I can't comprehend how people can get angry about the Nintendo Switch having paid online

It costs $19.99 a year. A year. Sony and Microsoft charge you like 60 fucking bucks for only a month of online. That's fucking shit

>seriously, this is so cheap
>unless you're a penny pinching jew you can afford this
>>
Literally what is the point of your thread
>>
Sony and Microsoft also have worthwhile features, and a matured ecosystem from actually caring to put time and effort into online 10 years ago.

For $20 a year on Nintendo I get to use my phone to do the same things I already do for free, and also get the benefit of having ZERO options of backing up save files.
>>
>>378931776
Sony charge 60$ a year not a month.
>>
>voice chat restricted to a phone app
>sales restricted to subscribers only
Not really worth it unless you have friends to play multiplayer with

criticism comes from love, anon. don't downplay it when a company you love starts acting shitty, treat them just as harshly as sony and microsoft.

remember nintendo went from free dlc in their games to the dlc costing more than the game in just one year. a low price on paid online now means jack shit.
>>
>>378931776
Its $60 a year..also it is a slippery slope. Start with $20 and gradually raise it..honestly i dont care since i only have a ds but people are right to be upset.

Depends on the company. Valve, Blizzard, and MMOs have their own servers for their games. Others just let people create servers through P2P or dedicated server programs.

Valve uses the money Steam prints to fund their online services which are often used by third parties, some developers pay for their own servers or have their own subscription fees, and sometimes the player is just given the server software to run on their own computers.

B) that being said, Sonyfriends and xbox believe that cause its more expensive they are getting a "better" service when PS+ still the same shit it was since PS3 era and the "60$" gets padded with indies and games no body plays.

>>378932306
Playing devils advocate and as retarded as the idea of using a phone is. Nintendo is kinda onto something here.

1) Voice Chat is a really niche feature actually. the open one is mostly kids or dude bros and among friends shit like Skype is more used and better
2) having a 3rd party software managing VC, means Nintendo don't have to "save up" memory and bandwidth in the game itself for a feature that people at best "Maybe" will use.

3) that pic configuration the fucking ad says is only optional. not the default "how does it works" way

>I imagine you can just make the TV loud enough that it works out.
Have you never experienced this yourself? Now days, random chats in game are far more rare but back when the 360 and PS3 were in their heyday, there was always, without fail, one asshole who did this and it caused an echo effect for everyone else. Thankfully, you can just mute them so it was only ever a mild irritation. Now, what if this was your only solution? What if you have a party of three or four? It's going to be unbearable feedback out the ass. This whole thing is Nintendo's most inelegant solution to anything they have ever done. This beats the uncomfortable Virtual Boy.
>>
best answer the internet provided me

>Several reasons:

>By forcing you to use a subscription, they invisibly motivate you to play often, thus populating the servers with people, which then further attracts more and more people. Multiplayer games die off when the number of active players drops below certain number, because it becomes difficult at times to jump into the game (no-one online).

>Furthermore, consoles are generally sold at a loss for the manufacturer, and the loss is made for in both higher price of games and in extra services like online access.

>The console manufacturer also bears certain connectivity costs (they must guarantee that things will work smoothly to game producers), so these costs are validly charged for in the subscription.

>And finally, since not everyone is willing to pay two subscriptions for essentially the same type of service, this may lead to parents not buy a second, competing console (which would also need subscription), thus cementing the console's dominance over the household.

TL;DR: Jews and Playing incentives

>>
>>378933202
PS+ has had several godawful moments but going down twice a month is an exaggeration. Now, if you wanted to talk about their faulty ass party chat then that's a different story. At the very least though, PS4 does have a party chat which works most of the time. Switch has a smartphone app that requires cables out the ass. It barely works as a handheld since all the cables are at least hanging off of you but running it across the floor when it's hooked up to the TV is just so fucking stupid.
>>

It's not about the money, it's about the principle of not paying for something that should be free.
>>
>>378931776
>I can't comprehend how people can get angry about the Nintendo Switch having paid online
It's easy when you realize that it demands you use another device to do all the online functionality.
>>
By 2019 it'll be $40 and by 2020 it'll be $60. The only reason they're doing paid online is because investors asked them why they aren't taking advantage of this essentially free revenue stream that Sony and Microsoft are taking advantage of.

In 2018 when paid online launches for only $20 a year and everyone signs up and Nintendo reports their earnings from this service to investors, you can guarantee there will be that one guy who says "that's great, but comparable services are charging $60!"

Any amount is too much to use your own internet connection. It's a slippery slope. Doesn't matter if you're a millionaire, even a rich guy isn't wiping his ass with a $20 bill just because he can "afford" to. Paid online is a scam.
>>
>>378934428
Or maybe they just do it because its literally free money and everybody else does it.

I'm giving Nintendo shit for it but at the same time they would be retarded to ignore this stream of money.
>>
>>378934164
The official story is shit like maintenance and server upkeep, and to help restore service quickly when something goes wrong. In reality though, Sony's not doing anything different now than what they were doing with the PS3. Yeah, there's party chat and share play, which are nice, but you don't need $60 a year to keep a server working unless you have rats living in the computers.

Thankfully, they at least sweeten the deal with some "free" games each month but it's still bullshit no matter how you look at it.

Sony gives good and almost recent games maybe once or twice a year, the catch is half of those games will only be for PS3. I disagree. While the focus is clearly on the multiplayer, I feel like they did a pretty damn good job on the single player. I'll be getting Splatoon 2 when it and the Switch are cheap as fuck just so I can play the single player.

I don't have a switch currently but I've been interested in getting one which is why I'm curious.

yes
>>
>Pokemon goes to the Switch

Fuck this.

NES games have online play and you can keep them for as long as you are subscribed.
>>
>>378935663
>dual stick shooter
>Splatoon 1 had only gyroscope controls for aiming in single player
Regardless of whether you think this is better or not, your bait as been called out. You didn't even play the game. You're doing nothing but shitposting for the purpose of rounding up a few (You)'s.

I never paid more than $35 a year. They go on sale so often. With that said, $20 a year is pretty reasonable but Nintendo doesn't have that many games worth going online for.
>>
>>378935902

>Splatoon 1 had only gyroscope controls for aiming in single player

Okay, so you have never played Splatoon if you think you can't change the controls.
>>
>>378935815
Well that sucks. I don't use voice chat, is that really it?
>>378935852
That's actually kind of cool but not $20 cool. Besides, netplay exists not that I have friends to play with.
>>
i have no problem paying as long as it works better. nintendo's been notorious for shit online play. if 20 bucks a year makes it so that it works well, great

Anyone that defends nintendo paid online probably never experienced the "wonders" of online play on nintendo systems.

I actually had the best online play on Nintendo systems over the last two gens.
PS3 was crapping itself much more often and 360 was all twelve year olds shouting into mics so I bowed out quickly.

Charging for it is still horseshit though.
>>
>>378931776
>It costs $19.99 a year. A year.
> Sony and Microsoft charge you like 60 fucking bucks for only a month of online.
>That's fucking shit

Yeah both of those are shit and I won't support any of them, because I'm not a cuck.

He's right about me being on my phone, note the iPhone filename. Not that it's a good argument, but I've yet to hear a good argument for paid online, so I didn't expect much better.

>It's okay when PSN goes down for days at a time!
Don't they add two days to your sub time when this happens? I don't have a PS4, but I'm guessing that'd be the case.
>>
>>378942915
You're probably thinking of Black/White/Black2/White2 with the use of the Xtransceiver. Diamond and Pearl had no such capabilities.
>>
>>378937609
Calm down, kid.
>>
>>378931986
LITERALLY nothing changed with ps+. Nothing. Don't pretend like the money goes into servers.
>>
>>378931776
paid online is always, always and always shit.

20€ a year is at least way lower than sony´s 60-70€ ps plus shit.

I don't own a PS4 or a Xbone, or even a 360, nor do I play online games that require monthly payments. I don't care enough about video games to pay for them more than once.
