I thought that was a neat concept at the time, but yeah, impossible to play it then, even more impossible to play it now. This game is one of those 'can't believe I didn't play at the time' disappointments for me.

Great times with this game. Use to play it with my buddy back in the day, still hop on once in awhile. It had a unique MMO-ish vibe that was really appealing to me. The combat, while simplistic, was also pretty cool. Amazing music too.

I have played hundreds of hours of crystal chronicles with tons of people throughout my life and never once experienced the phenomenon of having a designated chalice person.

I don't even fucking understand the point. Whoever is closest to the chalice picks it up, moves it 10 feet to the next battle, then drops it. Then when that battle is over whoever is closest to the chalice picks it up and repeat

It has a very unique way of telling the story. Essentially everything is discovered by the player and you can miss a whole lot of shit if you don't actively care about it.

The dungeon/year system is neat because it forces players to try new levels, but makes it so that there are a bunch of levels you never have to play (Rebena Ta Ra and Colnall Curach are two levels I didn't even know existed during my first playthrough).

Atmosphere is top notch, music is fantastic and the water effects are much better than an early 2000s GCN game should have. Gameplay is somewhat simplistic (particularly in singleplayer) but still very fun. It's sort of like an MMO mixed with a standard RPG. Multiplayer is obviously the best way to experience it, but singleplayer is still fun. Definitely the best game with Crystal Chronicles in its name.

I played CC singeplayer as a kid but never got the chance to try multiplayer because of all the gameboys and cables needed. There were other Gamecube games that made you do the same thing, even though the system already has four controller ports. All of the GBA elements felt so tacked on so they could justify making people buy a bunch of extra junk just to play with their friends.

It would be great if SE made another CC in the style of the original, as it'd be a lot easier for people to play together nowadays, but we all know that's never gonna happen.
