This and also GH Live was neat but never took off and RB4 had shit instruments. I regret "upgrading" to them and with that the final nail in the coffin was had.

I still miss RB2, lots of memories of playing with friends and the set list was god tier. They should've called RB4 fucking Alternative pop rock band with half the garbage on that set list

They didn't evolve. Guitar hero was considered the tryhard game, the new one had less buttons. Rockband 3 had more featurse than 4, they still want you to pay for an expansion with some added functions, but still no keys.
>>
To this day, I'm still dumbfounded at the fact that Rock Band 2 and GH:World Tour had almost the same exact setlist.

What an absolute blunder. Also, DJ Hero was fantastic. I just wish the Amplitude Reboot would arrive on PC.
>>
>>378886636
The games and hardware got worse and worse. They could have stopped at guitar hero 3 and just continued making DLC songpacks and I would still be interested in playing, but they felt like they had to add a new gimmick with every game
>>
>>378887324
lol I forgot about that, though honestly that's probably because from what I recall at the time Rock Band 2 was the far better package overall. Even without proper cymbal support the rock band drums are a better analogue and had better charts than guitar heroes weird compromise kit.

Oh yea and the set list for 2 had almost no filler

I hate RB guitars. The clickiness of the strum bar on the GH guitars acts as a sort of metronome, making it easier to do a rapid set of strums, like the 7 in a row each bar in the second half of One.

BTW, this here is the best guitar controller for either game. The thing was damn near indestructible.
>>
>>378886636
Rock Band 3 is the best rhythm game, hands down. Nothing even comes close. However, poorfags will argue otherwise.

GH series were releasing too many shitty games in a single year, Rock Band was boring shit and Record dealers were catching on to how popular these games were and started charging ten-fold for music licensing. Warriors of Rock was nice but sold like garbage. GH Live was a shitshow as well.

Rock Band 3 is so fucking underappreciated that it's borderline depressing.

It's really a shame that Guitar Hero destroyed the market by dumping out like 3-4 games a year, and nobody actually bought it. That game deserved so much more.

It's also a shame what happened with Rock Band 4 being so absolutely garbage due to their lack of a budget.
>>
>>378892949
I bought everything they pumped out
including the shitty mobile games guitar hero on tour and rock band unplugged

the prices were slashed after a few months of them being released so it was hard not to
>>

I loved these games and sunk probably like 5000-6000 hours just on GH2 and RB2 alone. That said, after getting really into actual guitar I've always felt bad for sinking so much time into them when I could be a hell of a lot better at playing now if I hadn't sunk all that time. I do remember those feels when after like two months of playing I managed to actually beat Hangar 18. That was some good shit.

>>

>>
>>378900826
oh sorry, I thought I was on /v/
>>
>>378901509
The one thing it did was expose me to a lot of different types of rock music and broaden my taste from all the edgy garbage I was listening to, but in terms of actual skill definitely not. The motions required for actual guitar are a lot different than what you need for GH/RB. I was able to consistantly 5 star most of GH2 after maybe 5 months. I've been playing actual guitar for 10 years and I'm only now just reaching the point where I can play intermediate and maybe some expert level songs without them sounding like shit. Used to be a metal guitarist back when I was a teen, but now I'm focused mostly on blues/blues rock.
>>
>>378901401
TTFAF was easy once you learned to get past the intro
>>
>>378901605
Pretty much every Bemani game has an absurdly high skill ceiling due to half of them needing sub-frame perfect timing to get the max possible score. It took nearly 10 fucking years for anyone to get 95% on Mei [a].
>>
>>378887709
RB2 was the better game by far, but I still got a lot of enjoyment out of World Tour's player-made shit. I had tons of video game songs and the like from GH Tunes on my xbox, and the occasional gem from some jap.

I got the bendy fender with RB4 and I immediately sold it because it's complete wank
the buttons are okay but the strum bar is just useless
it's mushy, silent and cost me so many FC's
been playing a million times better with my trusty WT guitar (with the taylor swift faceplate, it came with it, honest)
>>
rock band blitz doesn't get enough respect
>>
>>378902770
I don't really understand the hate, I've recenly played with RB4 guitar controller and I really like the fret buttons. The non-clicky strum doesn't even bother me at all even though I had thought it would. Only problem is that tilting is the only way to activate overdrive because of that stupid share button, but that's just PS4.

Easily spent over $1000 on DLC. I play Rock Band 3 pretty regularly and play pro-keys and guitar. I always wanted to get pro-drums but don't know how to get them. What do I need to do to get the pro-drums? Also, is Rock Band 4 worth it and will the guitar work on the Xbox One and the Xbox 360?

I was consistently ranked within the top 100 for most songs on guitar, drums, and pro keys. Some songs I was ranked in the top 10.
>>
>>378904318
any kit from RB2 onwards has the socket for the cymbals
GH kits don't count as they're missing a pad
but they're fun to play too
>>
>>378901509
Not that anon, but I played Guitar Hero 1 & 2 for two years before playing real guitar, and when I joined a guitar class I was the only student who could perform the basic exercises without my fingers hurting from the strings or my hand cramping, and had a WAY easier time learning how to position my fingers for chords. All those hours spent playing Guitar Hero was actually very good finger practice before playing the real thing, shit like those Green-Orange chords really helped me getting used to stretching my fingers far apart with ease.

So it varies, I guess. If you're a complete amateur and want to pick up guitar, Guitar Hero and Rock Band is great if you want to play a fun game while building up strength in your hands.
>>
>>378902062
Anon gets it. TTFAF was really made trivial because of how huge the timing windows in GH3 are.

Custom Rock Band breathed so much new life into the game.

Instrument+vocals is what I play. Doesn't matter which ones, I'm playing guitar right now, but I also like doing keyboard and drums with vocals, too.

He was the singer.

Also, anyone that plays regularly on the 360, do you remember that faggot guy that would pick songs, play, and then quit in the middle of them? I fucking hate that guy. You all probably know the guy. I see him all the time and I kick him on sight. I gave him a few chances. I normally play with anyone of all skill levels and even if they don't have DLC, but fuck that guy. They just launched a mobile version for iOS in Canada.

GH1 ho/pos were kind of broken, most of the time you had to play them akin to an actual guitar by already holding the lower frets. The GH1 engine also had an extremely strict timing window. GH2's HOPOs worked perfectly aside from one annoying bug in the PS2 version where if you missed a hopo and immediately restarted the song, the hopo wouldn't wort again until you went back to the setlist and picked the song again.

Then why Release it as a fucking shallow cashgrab that is awful, even band hero had 90% export.
>>
>>378916935
IIRC the reason the World Tour and Smash Hits exports were so shitty was because they never planned for them to export in the first place.

They saw how successful the RB exports were doing, and wanted to get their own out as fast and spending by as little money as possible.

>"Unsung" didn't export from Smash Hits

Because Activision didn't want to song exports in the first place so they could reuse songs in later games like they did with Smash Hits. Only reason they caved was the negative publicity after HMX announced all RB games will be exportable to the best of their ability.

That's also why early GH's had shit amount of songs exportable but the later games had much more, as Activision finally got on the ball after GH4.

Absolute madmen

Haven't started unlocking challenges in RB4 yet, but it would be funny if they put it in again.
>>
>>378886636
Everyone owned them (rockband actually) so it was hard to release more instruments or make money off continued production. Further it was hard to release more games when everything was possible on RB3. RB4 and all the patches and updated version are for people to not need their old systems anymore.

Guitar hero was a "me too" shit fest. They even fucked metallica and just wouldn't stop overdoing it. Activision should have made the one game under their label (GH3) and quit.
>>
market saturation, and ultimately, rocksmith.

rocksmith fucking DEMOLISHED both guitar hero AND rock band. It showed up on the scene with "lol nice plastic toys, learn to play a REAL guitar" and it sold gangbusters. It still gets DLC and still gets copies 4 years later.

That fucking difficult spike on GH3 is awful. Also, its quite weird Trapped under ice not have export.
>>
>>378918551
>GH was already saturating the market with band specific games (and their band games sucked as they weren't exclusively their songs in the track list) by the time Beatles Rock Band came out
>Beatles underperformed despite all the attention to detail and work they put into the venues and dreamscapes
>then Viacom forces them to make that RB Green Day game right afterward, devaluing the Beatles one even more.

Saddened me, especially since they didn't put out as much DLC as people hoped for. That was mostly on all the song rights holders being a pain to work with more than the game's sales though.

Knights of Cydonia is more a proper brick wall, Before I forget is easy,

Shame that they never brought back the songs at least as DLC.

The one section with the chords was too hard for me. Listening to Slipknot was a chore in and of itself. Knights of Cydonia was a tutorial for up-and-down strumming.

>not supporting the only rhythm game on PC.

Ubisoft took a risk releasing a rhythm game when it was clear that the fad was already over, they released it on PC without asking for a million dollars like Harmonix. Yeah I'm supporting them, I've bought some DLC and gift the game to friends all the time.

Also, fuck OSU! is not a real rhythm game.

RB3's servers are different to the WFC servers, so you can still download songs and even play online on it until whenever Harmonix cuts support.

GH also have servers, you can download the songs without any problem, aside WT.

i hate the fucking singer gender swapping because i don't give a fuck whether the song is sung by a man or woman, i want the character i designated as the singer to be the character who sings the song

even worse when even if you have an all-male or all-female band, the game still just switches your characters around for literally no goddamn reason

I'm a bit sad that DJ Hero had already died after its second iteration. The first one was so fucking good. I didn't play the second one but I thought it had too many contemporary songs when I looked at the song list. The remixes that they made really stood up by themselves and they're sitting in my music playlist for many years now.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLx_a3v2kHg
>>
>>378923595
The entire game got added later as regular downloadable DLC, so Green Day has the most songs in the store by far.

Yet people want still more.
>>
>>378923758
I hated DJ Hero 2. Everything from the presentation being sterile as fuck to the music being boring as shit compared to the first one annoyed me.
>>
>>378923872
I'm actually contemplating to get a cheap used PS3 and DJ hero since it's one of my favourite western rhythm games. Don't know if it's worth it though.
>>
>>378923968
I played a friend's DJ Hero and later on I bought both 1 and 2 and two controllers when Gamestop was unloading them for super cheap.
Played the hell out of part 1, but barely put more than 3 or so hours into the sequel.

Activision had the team behind the games make GH Live and after that bombed they disbanded them. Thanks again, Activision.
