Basically i view the mechs fighting at the infernal castle the same way I viewed the incident below grancel castle after playing FC - It happened for some reason, but we don't know exactly why just yet.

I just had a thought, not sure if it makes much sense but, what if both of those robots, were something akin to the top ranking ones? As in, among all Divine knights, the one Rean had and Crow were the ones who were in a higher position than the rest. By having both knights fight, something must somehow acknowledge the winner as the "top" robot, and thus allows it access to something most likely correlating to the sept-terrion that was used to to help make them?
So they would use the winner to unlock said door when the time was right, optimal result would be Crow winning and then using him robot, but since Rean won, he is now the holder of the right to do so, so they'll manipulate him into unlocking said thing for them.

That's probably one of the easiest issues to fix with Cold Steel, just have other characters involved with bonding events instead of just one character and Rean. Instead of being actual friends with each other, they're just friends by proximity because they all hover around Rean.

The entire problem with Links and Bonding Events is exemplified through the in-game screen that shows it. It doesn't matter whose links with the others is higher, it just matters who Rean is the closest with.

PC has skippable S-Crafts, which the PSP games lack. PC also has a more consistent translation and obviously better graphics. And achievements on Steam, for better or worse.

There is also no PSP version of the 3rd in English, and the PSP version of FC is no longer available digitally in Europe. Save transfer is a thing, though it's not too hard to find complete saves for the previous game online if you still want to take advantage of the (generally minor) bonuses.
